Egon Stetmann, the quirky scientist from the Hyperion has been added to Battle.net's cast of StarCraft II characters.

When Egon Stetmann began his scientific career at the Dominion's Tyrador III research facility, he found himself surrounded by equally young and idealistic peers, most of who shared his belief that their generation would create a better future for all terrans in the Koprulu sector.

Split into separate teams throughout the sprawling facility, these ambitious new scientists went to work on an array of assignments. Stetmann was paired with the brilliant Isabella Yorin, and they were tasked with creating a portable force field of ionized gas akin to protoss plasma shields, albeit without the aid of a psi-field generator. Believing that this device would have military and civilian applications, Stetmann devoted himself to the project and created a working prototype after only a few months.

Though somewhat unbelievable, Stetmann's biography is nonetheless an exciting read. His exact intellectual prowess is still somewhat of an unknown. Indeed, he is presented as a genius in this story, as well as being the man behind the Raiders' highly useful research lab. But scientists don't normally specialize in more than one field or act as a jack-of-all-trades, and Ariel Hanson commented that the Raiders' science expertise was non-existent, to which Raynor replied "Ouch. Well I guess you might be able to teach Stetmann a thing or two."
