zeratul gone soft and pansy in sc2. The old zeratul in sc1 was badass.

I wonder if people trash talked Kerrigan for turning senile when she started talking to herself about missle turrets and cloak.

I guess this is why you must construct additional pylons.
He used to be better in SC1, that's undeniable... but well I guess that if the original voice actor had still been around he would have been better.
Yeah... *sigh* some things aren't what they used to be...

I say chillax a little. While I can't speak for the others, I created this thread for some light-hearted mocking in the name of good fun (it's OK since it's a fictional character being mocked, and so has no feelings to hurt). It's just sort of a slight reprieve from all the serious debates, criticisms and discussions that pop up whenever anyone talks about SC2.
As they say: venting is good for the soul.![]()

I have to agree that Zeratul lost something in translation between games. Some notes for all:
1) I agree w/ Josue that it is a shame the original voice actor passed. While the replacement has done several decent yet generic voices (orc Grunt, zealot), they are just that, generic. Because Zeratul must be a unique voice, this hurt the character's portrayal regardless of Blizzard's good intentions. A unique voice would have helped, but other points detract enough that this improvement may have been limited.
2) The meetings w/ Raynor and Tassadar were rushed and the latter attempted to role a cliche into a mystery. It had all the effect of trying to make a cheeseburger out of cookie dough. The former was rushed due to context but could have been somewhat elongated to flesh out the full effect of the mystery/prophecy.
3) Had the pace and execution of the sidestory been as well done as the opening mission w/ Kerrigan (the only mission where she seemed herself, imo), I might be thinking better about Zeratul.
4) The final Toss mission could have been used to show Zeratul's status among his brethren much better. Imagine a pre-stage cinematic showing the Protoss leadership core that arrived in the ensuing level having a legitimate call-to-arms meeting, complete with full respect for Zeratul would have cemented the character's previous and ongoing legacy as a whole. Note that this is an area where a unique voice would have helped most.
5) I feel, w/ respect to both sc1 and the novels, that Zeratul's character is appropriate to use as a prophecy bearer, provided proper execution of the development, which, alas, fell short. Sc2's zeratul feels a little like sc1's "mini-me."
6) Overall, I am not bashing the character so much as how he was executed/portrayed. I feel the character was ok overall.
Some names of my own to honor the intended spirit of the thread:

I am a master tactician. It is my execution that keeps getting me killed.

I think Zeratul got traumatized since he saw the hybrids on SC1 campaign, traumatized, thats the word.

What fantasy are you living in? In the book QoB he needed Tassadar to help fight Kerrigan, and they both got whooped.Kicked Kerigan's ass one on one. Lets see anyone elts in the SC universe do that!
In WoL Zeratul didn't even hurt Kerrigan who apparently has instantaneous regeneration.
