Yep, my mind has always boggled at the fact that there are actually people at Blizz who get payed to think about the story for months yet there is still a single retcon at all and the story is anything less than A++.

Not only would this have made the game longer, but it would have made the player really feel like their decisions have consequences.
Now that you mention this, it's really retarded that the fact that there was an infested Hanson that was shot in the head by Raynor didn't made any difference in the ship. Something like that would have a deep impact on the crew, unless nobody knew it happened.

ITT: people assuming that it is the creative writers making the decisions. Please remember: Blizzard Activision are a business, and everything they do is motivated by money. Remember how Blizzard decided to split it into three parts and hired a new lead writer at the last minute? Would that be the responsibility of the story director, or someone else?

I think there is some truth in what Louis is talking about. The whole development cycle of Sc2 was all about multiplayer because in truth that's the only thing most people want and Blizz knew it. The single-player was only developed at the end of the cycle and was only given a year of so in development. This shows when if you look at the bones of WoL's story, it is very basic at the end of the day - it is extremely doubtful that it took months or years to concoct WoL's story. Maybe they knew the story wasn't going to be up to scratch in the first place and "decided" then to split it up and hire a writer to try and make up for it?
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

The story made me think of it as a case of a high school senior (let's say a good student) who took the SATs and applied to colleges and now bullshits on all of his work before graduation.

Here, multiplayer and the general development was their SAT/applications and the story is the "all nighter"
    - So, Gerard, I suspect you have a good reason for pulling me away from my Duties.

I got the collectors edition CD. They originally wanted Jim to say this after he shot her
"Why are all the women in my life crazy??" (in a comical/dark humor manner)
They also put emphasis on "Oh man I really wanted an ALIENS like scene in here. We even modelled the entire science lab to have rafts just so we could do this scene"
Like shit, no wonder the single player "lacked". I bet they blew a considerable amount of their budget on useless/stupid things many people will never notice.

I know they want to cater to the mainstream (it sells) but ughh if they just had focused a bit on the story...it would've been leaps and bounds more better....

But honestly...I just do not care for all these random support characters that get brief "Forced" roles. They come and go so fast it's like ... "huh..who are you?"

Who the hell can even remember this guys name? The hell did he even do? I know he had a high profile voice actor too...All I remember is him using his robot arms to massage Raynor to heal him...

Despite Tychus Findlay playing such a large role - he didn't get much screen time - quality screen time anyways. The time's he did, he was just this 1-D jarhead stuck in a marine suit. Well yes that is who he is!
But how about you develop this grudge he has for "Taking" the time for Ol' little James Raynor...the several years he spent "iced", being used around like a dog by Arcturus. There were probably more touching moments between Raynor and Egon or the Dwarf armory guy....
All we got was some lame bar fight and an intro cinematic that spoiled the entire pawn thing. Awesome...

Hi Blizzard, meet your old friend Soliloquy. You guys made great use of him in SC1 when the main characters "talked" to the Adjucant/Executor (The player). Please visit him, he misses you. (Or any monologues for that matter..)

A soliloquy is a device often used in drama where by a character relates his or her thoughts and feelings to him/herself and to the audience without addressing any of the other characters.[1] Soliloquy is distinct from monologue and aside.

Monologue? Soliloquey? Good heaven's, lets not go to those boooorrrriinnnggg and ancient story telling styles.

What we need is rich, sexy, hot celebs spitting out lines of dialogue while stating in a certain position to accentuate their splitting curves. Yeah that's right, modern CGI baby! Who's really listening to what they say anyway? All you need to do is listen to sexy Tricha Helfer's romantic and sexy voice (you know it's her because we did a marketing campaign based on her)

I get by your sarcasm that I'm supposed to disagree with you, but part of me just can't

As a side note, did anybody notice that the characters in the cinematics were not anatomically correct? The most striking example is the cinematic with Kerrigan, her face looks weird because her eyes are too far apart. Also, in the intro cinematic Tychus' toes are strange, and his shoulders are way too massive.
