Seriously though, even if it was just Tasteless and Artosis talking while they settled their technical problems, it wouldn't qualify for anything more than an inconvenience.
This is a serious competition. It's not like the weather was bad or something. Kinda dampens the mood when the internet is lagging. I mean why isn't it in the best conditions?

Hey Squid and Hyde, I didn't realize we were so close - I'm from Edmonton. Kinda makes this whole 'internet community' thing a little more real.

    yarg! Edmonton! Die! Die!

Seriously, how do you stand living in a city with 7-way intersections and no parking? And wtf is up with your city centre actually being in the centre of your city? So weird.

Although it didn't amount to much more than inconvenience at the GSL (aka the long wait), it is still a valid concern I had been a proponent of during the HDH Invitational in the Beta; if I remember well, there had been a HUGE amount of money involved in setting up a tournament in China that failed due to battle.net tech issues. At the time, people were like "ooh, you're judging that incident when it's still Beta..." and they didn't want to see that this was a valid issue. Now that the game is finalized, and the same shit is happening, I just wanted to reiterate to those people: YOU WERE WRONG.

Battle.net needs a different format for official tournaments. Having to pay for LAN was a good idea, and I think they should have gone through with it instead of axing that part before release. Might have been rumour, but in any case, it would have been a valid solution, and what has been happening at the GSL would not have happened.

Think Blizzard needs to think this through.

They can't really do that. Doesn't matter if they make LAN edition expensive and only available to tourny organizers, it's going to leak on torrent sites and blizz will no longer control everything, same if they included LAN into the retail version.

I agree. And it could also stir some nasties on forums and such.

Even if this were a LAN tournament, there is always the risk of hardware malfunctions, or other technical problems. Heavens knows how many such malfunctions there's been in BW's progaming history, such as that power failure in Flash vs Jaedong in the last MSL season I think it was. No, the real test is in how prepared for such situations GOM TV is, and they handled things pretty well.

It's a serious competition, yes, but it's not like the outcome of the game was seriously affected (since it just started), the playing conditions are the same, none of the players' abilities would have been affected in any way, so yeah - a delay like that is just an inconvenience.
The only place for a hamshank is on the dinner plate!

There's a reason why Edward Longshanks was an evil git in 'Braveheart'! Down with the shanks! All of them!

They could always build a series of private servers for the GSL. It's not that expensive to host, and could work the same way a LAN does.

Doesn't matters. They're looking bad every time an event is screwed because of their CRM system. The game is out since a long time right now, most people had already buyed the game by now. If someone didn't he wasn't going to buy it anyways.

But of course, there is their pay-per-time business model, which could still be affected. I pity the poor guy that buyed that. Buying 6 additional months costs another 30 bucks, which rises the price to the same than buying the whole non-limited game. Basically, you rent SC2 for 6 months for $30 when you "buy" it in LA.

What a coincidence, I do as well.

Been to Calgary a few times, never noticed any differences between cities besides the fact that Calgary is newer and the weather slightly warmer.
