Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

While thematically that holds up, logistically... how did they ferry these artifacts around? How do they intend to steal them from Raynor once he gets his hands on them? If any one of them that comes close to it dies, isn't it basically lost forever the moment someone else takes it? The best they can then do is kill the guys who stole it and build their new site of worship wherever it is the artifact happened to be at the time?

In The Dark Templar Saga, Ulrezaj did sacrifice a number of Tal'darim to an artifact (which explicitly drained their energy). However, he did this in secret. Only one of his followers knew of this.
The Tal'darim often sealed the artifacts away. Perhaps they had large robots and ships carry them around.

Well if that's the case, it's mighty suspicious that Blizzard wouldn't actually show that (ie, create some robotic artifact-maintenance unit for the Tal'Darim) if they were going to include KILLS PROTOSS as one of its explicit attributes.
And by "mighty suspicious" I mean "incredibly careless."

I'd say careless or even forgetful. But I wouldn't really call it out as "explicit" since many players wouldn't have seen Hanson's quote on the topic. It's literally only mentioned once.

Hmm, didn't the last xel'naga piece abroad the worldship had a shield encasing it or was it a vault similar from the Utter Darkness mission?

Shame really. If only there was some more prominent info on the artifact in WoL, such as it's ability to kill Protoss and some background around its origins, the whole thing wouldn't have to sound so much like a deus ex machina.
And yes, I understand that its ultimate purpose needs to be secret for now and we'll find out. Right now though, the similarity of this artifact with the Uraj and Khalis in BW (the only explanation for them is they're ancient and enfused with either light and dark templar energy. Meh) is irritating me to no end.

It was in a vault. It was exposed until the Raiders destroyed enough rip-field generators, at which point the Tal'darim closed the vault. (At this point, you had to destroy the vault to get to the artifact.)
Some of the artifact pieces (such as the one from Monlyth) were just sitting out there. The zerg didn't seem to have any problem being near the artifact in the final mission (except for when it released a pulse to kill them, of course).
