[Spoilers] What the heck is this Kerrigan video all about????

Two good guys killing a bad guy in the name of "truth, justice and the American way" is "grimdark" now? And anyway, isn't it a somewhat shallow way of defining what made people appreciate BW? You may be speaking of the bare facts of the scene, but mood-wise it is nowhere near Brood War (or even the original StarCraft for that matter).

And anyway, if you've read the thread you'd know that (at least) my issues with the whole scene are quite different from the ones you're refuting.

And what were the bare facts of the scene? Raynors Raiders defending Arcturus? Jim helping Kerrigan? The Zergs freedom? What about the bare facts of Narud, Valarian, dark voice, duran, the protoss and the hybrids?

I just feel that complaining about it would make me a bit like that guy on the one simpons episode who complained about the "magic xylophone" on that episode of Itchy and Scratchy. Just remember that even bad endings can be alright depending on how the story arrived at that particular point. Anyway, I'm gonna try (and maybe fail) to move on and forget about the whole previs by the time HotS comes out...

More or less (though I am a bit confused as to what you mean by bringing Hybrids et al into it). My point is that such an event as "Kerrigan kills Mengsk" can be played out in a hundred different versions, and the one we see in the cinematic is pretty hollow and anti-climactic compared to what it might have been.

Agreed, but as I've said before, we have most of the story in StarCraft and Brood War; and whatever may transpire in HoTS, taking into account all the earlier conflicts of those characters this particular version of the final resolution between them feels quite lackluster.

And do mind, I'm not saying it's an entirely horrible cinematic, there are some nice moments in there (the glimpses of Korhal bathed in sunset light, the reveal of Kerrigan's clone (and I am pretty sure it IS a clone attuned to her psychic wave, since the "implant" version makes no sense) which is quite disconcerting, Kerrigan's taking out of Mengsk's guard). But all in all, Mengsk's character is dumbed down (they should've given him more to say in less stock phrases before killing him and a much greater sense of weight and significance to his death), his death by Kerrigan's hand needs no justification on Kerrigan's part ("This is isn't vengeance, this is Justice!" is a line and theme taken directly from WarCraft and it really should stay there), and her final speech about the Zerg leaving is far too Hollywood-ishly delivered for me to buy into (although I do love the idea that the Zerg may have a more beneficial side than previously known, as long as it doesn't really compromise their chthonic/chaotic monstrous aspect).

Story wise, I don't have a problem with the video making it the final cut if they could execute the rest of the campaign well.

However, my main concern is that if they have set in stone major parts of the storyline (including whatever possible retcons they may or may not use) all the way back in 2009, what's with all that BS that the writers are listening to our feedback?

They still may be listening, but evidence would point to an assumption that they probably have their shit figured out and don't care about any critiques, give or take the most minor stuff.

It may be an almost 2 year old previs without lip syncing, but it was posted alongside a similarly 2 year old previs that turned out be an almost identical version of WOL's "New Getysburg" cutscene.

Yeah, about writers listening to our feedback... they aren't. Nobody at Blizzard listens to our feedback, unless it's a huge uproar about something completely ridiculous (like the whole RealID real names deal). I was in both the beta for SC2 and Cataclysm, and only or two of bugs I reported were repaired before the end of the beta, and that must be mostly out of coincidence - since most of the bugs I reported made it to live, and had to be hotfixed in the first weeks.

My point is, don't try to persuade Blizzard to change something they like. They're very stubborn. I personally love that ending of HotS, so I'm less concerned about it, but if you don't like it... well, tough. You're in for disappointment.

While people made sure to go ahead and preserve the new never before seen video, I haven't been able to locate the pre-viz version of the NG vid ever since it was taken down.

Basically, it was the same video, with a few more action shots of Kerrigan fighting and some winged Zerg insectoids attacking her.

Raynor's complaint to Mengsk was shown somewhat differently (Raynor was on Mengsk;s screen without his armor), but otherwise, the slow motion dropping of the gun and realization of doom, etc, was identical.

Xarthat, Metzen is pulling a George Lucas here, and won't be up for anything good, just like he wasn't with his stubbornness about the prequels. Ah....hubris hubris....
