Thread: What is it about Ghosts that actually let them stand a chance against the Toss?

As stated in Liberty's Crusade, zerg (which are also psionically sensitive) can only detect a typical ghost from a few yards away. In War-Torn, the zerglings could detect the much more powerful Colin Phash from a long distance (further than the wrangler Randall could).

Gestalt Zero got right up to Muadun before he was noticed, which means zerg are probably the best psionics detector out there. I don't believe the protoss ever mentioned feeling the psi emitters, not even the ones unleashed at Tarsonis (though they did "hear" Kerrigan's cry).

The sources conflict a lot, but I suspect it boils down to power. A typical ghost isn't very powerful, and probably doesn't put out a lot of psionic energy. The protoss might even be picking up "interference" from the psionic power put out by other protoss. A high templar might even be worse at detecting psionics since they put out more than other protoss.

It also depends on whether the target is hiding his thoughts. Colin could evade the Zerglings using his "quiet voice" and I'm guessing that Gestalt Zero was shielding his thoughts as he snuck up on Muadun.

The ghost that tried to recapture Sarah Kerrigan should have been hiding his thoughts, but didn't. I'm thinking maybe that part of Uprising wasn't well thought out, because we've never seen another ghost so easily detected.

(Mal Kelerchian could detect Nova in a building, but she was untrained PI 10.)

Well, that's what happends when you give free will to a bunch of different writers. You sell books, comics, etc, but the lore is messed-up quite a lot.

Not really. Logically (and in-game, and in most recent lore sources) ghosts aren't that easy to detect. Uprising is also an older product; the newer ones tend to have more accurate lore.

Or perhaps he was trying but Kerrigan, being the rare "brain s'plode!" variety, was able to find him anyways? Just because Uprising is older or Ghosts aren't as uber in it doesn't make it any less informative.

Superior capability in language does not necessarily equate to superior intelligence...but it certainly doesn't help your argument if you sound stupid.
