Here's a point, if it's going to take time (like, more than a few hours) it isn't needed. Hells, if it comes to that quotes aren't really needed, but a bit more leniency can be given there given that it a) most of it doesn't really affect any other area of the project, and b) it'll very likely be finished within a few hours.

Well, I don't think the art team is doing much right now other than polishing of the units, so I don't think doing this would be much of an interruption.

Except that they may have to recode the units to make this feature even possible, which 'is' a waste of time.

What the hell does "recode the units" mean? Portraits would have nothing to do with anything else in the game.

Bliz said the portraits will be rendered in real time, which means the tileset effects could easily be implemented.

it's the small features that make the game interesting in the long term, such as the fun quotes or the idle animation

Although, if blizzard had 'free' time, this would be a great little added effect. Personally, I want the beta asap so if this would delay the beta, or even the retail version of the game no thx!

As stated above, it would involve little more than the art team. The beta could come out on schedule, and whenever the artists feel they've finished, this could be patched in along with any other changes made for that build.

I wouldn't mind seeing this idea be incorporated. However, I'd never expect it to be considered by Blizzard because it would take more time on their part and Blizzard knows 99% of the time you will not be looking at the unit portrait.

Look at the current unit portraits.

    Look at the backgrounds.

The amount of space to place in a background is so insignificant that this change isn't worth doing. There literally is no space for background, as the unit takes up 90% of what you see.

And for it to work, the background would have to be blurred so that the focus is still on the unit, making it even more pointless.

Would you stop being a retard, and actually listen to the points that people make?

Animated portraits are no less pointless than having more animations in the background.

Even if they do it for ONE unit, it'll still add to atmosphere.
