(dunno if a thread exists already but well...)
I've been going through the sc2 campaign again, mostly the parts considering the protoss and ''found'' something i didn't notice before but, at one point, Ariel mentioned that the artifact would ''drain the very life out of a protoss'' and that ''they were created merely few thousand years ago, and in comparison to other xeno-archeological items they were just recently made'', did anyone else notice that before? what do you think about it, my thoughts were that the voice made it to do something to the protoss rather than use it on the zerg as the terrans have utilized it

I've done some preliminary studies. Your artifact is a few thousand years old, but that makes it pretty 'young' in Xeno-archaelogical terms. Most alien artifacts are millions of years old. By comparison, this one was made recently.

Well, if you think of them as dry sponges, they draw ambient energy like water. These things try to absorb as much energy as they can.
Raynor
Are they dangerous?
Hanson
Not if you're human. If my theories are correct - and you were a protoss, for instance - they could drain the life right out of you.
So, any ideas? i really dunno what else to make of it other than to connect them to the chambers beneath Aiur (trilogy, Jake and Zamara seeing the dead, DRY corpses of the protoss), so going by that it either
a) kills the protoss
b) serves as a way to experiment(?) on the toss
c) uses their essence/life energy to power something up
d) the same thing only to give the energy to someone or better said, to refine it to be useful for someone else for whatever they may need it (Ulrezaj using it to stay alive?)
e) given its nova charge, possibly to disturb/destroy the khala (or whatever connection the toss may make with their psyonics?)
f) destroy a threat (eg someones ability to control the zerg instead of the maker?)
g) to store energy or something else (think ihan crystal - note that [i think] Ariel or Stetmann say that it radiates 10x the amount of energy of ANY other encountered artifact)?
h) some other ideas?
