Personally I agree with the result, as:
-Multiplayer: No, ME2 doesn't need it, but it's still something that it doesn't have. Not something to be compared, but something to be factored in.
There's also the fact that I felt that Mass Effect 2 essentially succumbed to sequel syndrome. Not so much in the case of sequels inevitably becoming worse (movies are the main case of this-usually after the second from the top of my head), but where they just don't 'feel' better, if that makes sense. Even if other games are technically superior, certain hallmarks tend not to be surpassed. The original Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time are personal examples, how even if their sequels were technically superior, they don't feel as 'special.' To me, ME2 was an example of this-it ultimately failed to improve off its sequel to me and in some cases felt like it was taking a step backwards. Wings of Liberty however felt like a bona fide improvement in all areas.
There's also the feeling of iffyness that comes in Mass Effect 3-at the most, it would have a bit over one year of development. The last game I played with such a short development phase was Tiberian Twilight and...well, I'd rather not talk about that.
Of course, this is all opinion. Which is why I'm readying the flame retardant now.![]()
