Well, to be fair, WoL was mediocre at best and there was definite room for improvement; especially in comparison to the rest of the campaign (e.g. cinematics, unit design, mission deisgn) which I felt was a lot more polished.

Yes, I agree. However, his presentation of his opinion as a fact is getting a bit old.

    @OP: This. Definitely.

I mean, cylons? Really? Are you truly so devoid of original thought?

I feel Sc2: WoL had an excellent story simply hampered by substandard execution/implementation. The ideas were sound. The method felt... rushed, overly direct or contrived, or all at once.

    1) No prophecy and Zeratul missions.
    2) Make a Zerg prologue campaign (demo) explaining WHY THE HELL THE ZERG HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING the last 4 years, and give them a reason to start conquering worlds again. Terrans being weakest must be killed off first, then on to protoss.
    3) Start the Terran Campiagn with focus on Raynor's fight against Mengsk during the campaign, which ONLY would have 1 side plotline focused on saving worlds from the Zerg, that would ultimately end in Raynor being forced to let go of Mengsk and to confront Kerrigan (with a now extremely large forced gained by freeing worlds, not just 1 battlecruiser against empires duh!).
    4) Kill off Raynor in the super epic finale cinematic that would put Kerrigan as the big bad wolf in charge of asskicking once and for all (forget lovestories peeps, this is StarCraft!) and let her give some final speech while the screen blackens, of her next goal being Protoss, now that humanity truely has been forced to its knees with a failing Dominion and a fleeing Mengsk.
    5) End of first installment of SC2.

    ____

I know the base problem is that there aren't any protoss involved really. Could be put in when working on details, like Selendis or Artanis joining up with some expeditionary force like Tassadar's.
Make certain missions go against certain tribes of protoss maybe due to helping Artanis/Selendis in some way.

There, 30 orso missions and gamedesigners can think of map uniqueness fitting the storydevelopment. Too simplistic?

Kill Raynor? You'd be killing StarCraft.

[(sorry for being long and if i sound like i'm bitching or dunno..something )]

    Agreed.

@BusinessMonkey - simply too much kill kill kill in your version mate...

    a) we already had kerrigan as absolute winner in BW (remember the final speech, the screens blackening...sounding familiar?)
    b) the explaining why zerg were dormant and all that would actually be better put in heart than wings in my opinion
    c) you actually had that in wol, the fight against arty
    d) what, you want another sons of korhal? (again my solo opinion) - you're just replaying sc with the stuff you're saying - a small rebel band gets big and smashes the big bad guys

plus - it all actually happened -> raynor went after kerrigan and '''let go'' of arty for a while...

    or simply put:
    1) disagree - just don't make him sound like a pussy and change the damn dialogue plus kick tassy out
    2) the fuck you plan on doing in heart then? zerg = heart, terrans = wings, they have nothing to explain in the first part
    3) erm, that actually happened... and he ''got'' a huge force (junior remember )
    4) NO -> lame, stupid, pointless, plus a total copy of bw ending, and i believe i read that a lot of people here have agreed that is kinda sucked a bit
    5) ending of the first installment of SC2

please note that its all my opinion on this, and what i believe i remember correctly about the seen and heard
Can't figure if Zeratul is trolling or...

This is indeed too similar to BW as pointed out by Zeraszana. But, if we suppose that the overall plot still concerns a prophecy that requires Kerrigan to survive and Raynor finding out about it, then I would've definitely had Raynor sacrificing himself to save Kerrigan at the very end of WoL. Which in consequence would have touched whatever shreds of humanity the Queen of Blades had left, making her resolved to ensure that Raynor has not died in vain, which would be one of the main motivations for her actions in Heart of the Swarm (which, by the way, wouldn't mean that Kerrigan suddenly becomes a "good" character, just a more complex and ambiguous one).

P.S. As for what the Swarm was doing all these four years, Blizzard's been (not so) obliquely hinting that Kerrigan wanted the Zerg to attain greater sentience (that's why all the experiments with infesting humans in that short story by Micky Neilson they published ages ago, and that's why the Queens talk and that "final metamorphosis" mentioned in the SC 2 Zerg trailer). This not only provides an ample amount of things for Kerrigan to do in that time period, but also a fertile ground for missions in Heart. It is actually a pretty natural and interesting development, as a new ruler of the Swarm, Kerrigan (consciously or not) is bound to shape it in her image.
