Thread: The price of victory

  1. #1

    Default The price of victory

This is a game mode invented by a friend of mine. It's a simple way of regulating balance when playing 1v1 of unequal skill.

The rules are simple. Play a normal game at 100% handicap. The player that wins becomes the variable and drops their handicap 10%. From that point on, they drop 10% for every win and raise it 10% for every loss. Play until you find a good balance that levels the playing field. The winner gets to choose the map.

what is the handicap, I still don't know what that does with the actual gameplay

Mass Effect Universe Fan, I support Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for Game of the year award! ME2 still is being the best rated game this year! Keep it up

It drops the target player's health by the percentage indicated.

I regularly use handicap when i play random customgames, if im able to ee my opnents record before starting; having 30% less HP cna keep things interesting, even diamond vs Gold...
I am an enthusiast of good strategy games, sc2Esports and rollplay, although i dont really play anything atm.
I work an internship at a government agency this fall, and have a good time at it.
I'm being more social, active and honest lately. in all forums.

The only problem i got with handicap is AOE spell. When you got -30% health, storm is freaking imba.. XD

Gotta figure tho, in this scenario if you're at -30% health there's a good chance your opponent can't properly manage AOE spells with any degree of aptitude

do you mean a x% drop on every unit's health on the field?
if so, seems like the workers will be far too weak for even a light base raid for it to be fair... hm... but who am i to question something that actually sounds kinda fun...

Yep. So for example, a Reaper which normally is produced with 50 health will be produced with 45 health instead at 90% handicap. Likewise for all buildings.

A skilled player shouldn't let that undermine him. In fact, it could be beneficial at some degree: less points to heal, regen or repair.

What an optimist. The glass is only half full but there's only half a glass left so it's all good!
