Thread: If you were in charge...

Yes, I know there are all sorts of threads about "make your own patch" and who do you want to be the bad guys in game 3. This thread is a bit more in-depth than that. Quite simply, imagine for a minute that you are in control of Blizzard, or at least, StarCraft 2. What would you do immediately in regards to WoL? Would you institute a marauder nerf? Add more 2v2 maps? Add chat? Cross-region play?

But then what would you do in the coming months? Remember that not all changes can be made immediately. What would you do to keep this game alive for 3, 4, 10+ years?

What would you do with the campaign for HotS? How about Multiplayer? Co-Op?

In other words, I'm trying to narrow down just what people think -works- in WoL and they would keep, and what things they would change as the years go by. What do you consider the biggest success and failure of SC2 are, and how would you build upon them, or correct them?

I'd need about 2 months to write down everything I would have done differently.

2 months is just fine, and I'd love the read the results!

Me, there are a few things I'd do right off the bat. I'd pull out a marauder nerf just to see what happens. Not sure which one though. I can't tell if its the hitpoints, the attack, or the still-too-easy-to-get grenades that make it so troublesome, but I'd change one of them and see what happens.

After that, I think there aren't enough 1v1 maps so I'd introduce a few. Cross-region play would come before the maps, actually.

To be honest, I never used Chat channels in the old b.net, but I'd put in at least one or two for now, see how they're used. If nobody uses them, or they aren't used as much as we'd like, then drop the idea. But I doubt that would happen.

    HotS however...hmm...that's a tall order.

    1. Change the econ flow.
    2. enable more micro benefits.
    3. broaden production to econ relationships
    4. enable more opening variations
    5. enable more scouting options
    6. enable more harassment options

I have no concrete ideas how to do this exactly just yet though.

    To extend:

    1. add low-skill tourneys, local to battle.net by adding a tournament game selection. This would be accessible as an achievement and would refresh after every tourney is done.

    2. Not keeping a hold on custom content creation and tools, and adding a custom campaign selection in the single player menu. This can either be locally hosted, or on-line.

    3. Add more filters to custom game list, and personalization of the sort. Like favorites, add to games list, or subscribing to an author or map for future news and changes.

    4. Add a small "wall" where authors can blog. Limited space if necessary, just like in the achievement/profile menu.

Strip down SC2 even more, so that more people buy the expansions.

Well that's the real trick isn't it. Figuring out how to do it.

I'm always surprised to see you actually post, Ryan, instead of moving the pawns across the board from behind the curtain.
