As long as they die quickly, and can be immediatly recognized, there should be no problem.
The Hydralisks death by flame was bad, because:

    - They taken an eternity to die.
    - They continued to move all the time, which can look like they're still doing something.

Just set them into flames, then fall to the ground, and everybody will be happy.

I don't know about you but I can easily differentiate between a fully fleshed Hydraisk and one that's writhin on the floor all scorched and black.

They were not in the floor, they were standing and moving in flames. Good luck trying to differentiate them while being striken by multiple Hellion attacks.

It's simple really. Dead Hydralisks are scorched and torched and moving in frantic unnatural ways and can not be selected.

Normal Hydralisks aren't frantically writhing all around... and they're normal colours.

Sure, they are easy to see when there are a few of them "just for the show", but in the middle of a battle, they will cause confusion, as the screen is filled with flames and explosions.

I think the answer, in any situation where it will make a big difference, is "living Hydras will have green selection circles around them..."
