    Zeratul shuold be saying

"What is this trickery?! Reveal yourself!" upon seeing Tassadar

Tassadar "No it is I, brother, I have returned from the darkness to grant you a dire warning"

    Zeratul "How can this be?!"

Tassadar "Heed my call Zeratul, a great evil is upon us. The overmind is not what is seems. We have been tricked by a greater power in a grand scheme of things"

    etc etc

There is no suspension of disbelief, there is at least some reason for Zeratul to be smart here.

But instead, in SC2, you're just force fed everything and the writing is just absolutely terrible. The Zerg could've conjured up tassadar's image as a hologram for all that matters and Zeratul just blindly listens to a fake hologram... what a load of crock shit writing.

The protoss are a PROUD people, yet they speak like plain people. I miss the old days of Protoss speech, Zeratul felt like he was a dark lord with his stance and his personality. Now he feels like a forgetful old fool starting to become senile and seeing dead friends...
So Protoss have to talk like Native Americans in 1950s cowboy shows? You don't have to sound like a Klingon bodybuilder on steroids to be Protoss guys...

Incidentally, because Protoss communicate telepathically, it may be all but impossible to pull off trickery like that. Zeratul may have mentally linked to the Khala-ghost so as to preclude any disbelief.

That was the Archon portrait, recycled for Tassadar. That was what annoys people, that such an iconic character in the StarCraft lore doesn't get a proper, unique portrait.
That, and, you know, the extremely (even for a protoss) narrow face.

Yeah, please look at the pictures I uploaded one more time and tell me Tassadar's face in SC was narrow.

    Despite the narrow chin yes.

It is 10 years later. Let the nostalgia go. Such nitpicking ruins the game for you? The classic was just as cheesy as this one. Your just blinded, take the goggles off.

Are you serious? This isn't about nostalgia. In fact, even if they made him look totally different, I wouldn't have such a problem with it. The problem to me is that they gave one of the most iconic characters in the whole game a generic unit portrait, but with a different camera angle.

And how could anyone look at the two portraits and think they look anything alike is beyond me. Nothing matches up, except for the fact that they're both protoss.

You might be right that a recycled portrait now is underwhelming, but don't expect the final unique version to look anything like SC1's, either. The days of every Protoss looking like he comes from a different species are long gone, for better or worse.

At this point I'm just hoping there's a 'final unique version' at all. Honestly, they can make him look different. Everyone looks different. Hell, Kerrigan looked black, or at least half-black, in her unit portrait in SC, now she's white as a snowflake. I just want a unique unit portrait for one of the most iconic SC characters.

Yeah it's nostalgia, just like chat-channels, LAN, and not having a server lock. Seriously, Blizzard fanboy-ism never ends. When is "it's nostalgia" going to stop being an excuse for everything Blizzard does wrong?

Like Articose said, the only similarity b/w the old & new Tassadar is the name. It's like, thanks for bringing him back Blizzard....but no thanks. I'd rather not have him come back at all if they're just going to half-ass it. The entire point of bringing back an old character is the acknowledgment of the fact that the things the fans identified him with need to be preserved, which in those times were mainly voice and portrait. Otherwise they could have created a new character for this purpose, or went with the alternate storyline they had planned.

It's for worse. There are different Protoss tribes, remember? There was little or no contact between them from a bunch of time.

Do africans, japanese, mexicans and european, look the same?

It's a well known fact that reality is unrealistic. It may very well be realistic for the Protoss to have skull shapes that are as different as Aldaris's and Tassadar's were from Fenix's and Artanis's (heck, maybe the differences in human skulls just happened to be miniscule, compared to other life forms in the universe)... but that doesn't mean that it's in the best interests of a science fiction work to pursue that. If the bounds of what does and does not look Protoss are not as firmly established as they have been going into WOL, it's a given that over the years we're going to get a lot of art that will push those boundaries and make us, ESPECIALLY us, with our rose-colored glasses and all, wince and say "What are you doing Blizzard?! You totally ruined the Protoss! They never looked like (mushrooms/goats/light fixtures/Arnold Schwarzenegger/wimps/whatever) before!"

The thing is SC1 doesn't present a single perfect answer to what looks Protoss. Back then we accepted it all on faith, each new image was a lesson that Protoss can indeed look like this, even though it's different from all the other ones we've seen before. SC2 does not have the buffer of being that first entry in a new franchise... we're not going to be that lenient. If Blizz came in and told us "oh and by the way Protoss can also look like this" and "this" was different for every new Protoss they introduced, I'm willing to bet the outcry would be a hundred times louder than what we had over the teleportation-upon-death crisis.
