What irks me the most was how little interaction there was between characters.

What I mean is, in SC1 all or most of the characters talked to each other at some point or other in the story, whether it's a random NPC talking to you the player, Edmund bantering with Stukov when the UED first introduces itself, or Stukov boldly asking the Protoss to power down their ships so that the UED could possess whatever spoils they had garnered recently. This felt expansive, it felt good to see other characters talk to each other, and not just you.

In SC2 there's very little of that. Most of it is just talking to Raynor, and I got tired of it, really quick. I don't know how other people feel about this, but I felt personally it was way too centralized on Raynor's personal story, which kind of made the universe feel smaller to me.

That being said I really wasn't bothered by the campaign. I do agree a bit more character death would have been beneficial to the story, this is war after all, I don't feel as strongly about the overall storytelling and delivery as many of you do. Sure it was pretty trite and predictable, but it's not that far off from the quality of the original IMO. I think a lot of people just subsist on nostalgia and that gets in the way of seeing how good, or bad, something is on it's own merit, set apart from it's predecessor.
The problem isn't character death. Nobody needed to die in WoL. The problem was interaction, there was none. Nobody likes realistically being part of the story.

There was a mission briefing that wasn't as interesting as SC1 was (4 guys looking at a TV isn't interesting as a conference) then there was a mission debriefing where people just talk. Talk talk talk talk.

Do you actually remember any time in the game where there was actually interesting stuff happening? Like why wasn't Jim Raynor leading the charge, and have his portrait look like he's in the middle of a fight?

Like after a mission, all's well, the ship is tidy, they're expressionless. I liked the old Blizzcon 08's mission briefings better.

The lead writer worked on Mass Effect 2 and Jade Empire. They also have Andy Chambers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Chambers

I was thinking the same thing.

Agreed on that as well, the story went from grand to mini and that is never a good thing.
