I didn't have the time to following BlizzCon this year. Were there any insights into the expansion as far as timing or new units? I dug around on the homepage but didn't find anything at first glance.
I'm assuming no specifics were given.

Nope nothing really.
I think they said somewhere that it'll be out in early 2012.

Damn you evil truth! Damn the truth!
There was a little snippet of "concept art" and a wicked awesome concept infested bunker at the end of the art panel. It's confirmed that Marketplace will be either at launch of HOTS or in a patch afterwards.

2012...ouch. I guess we'll have Diablo 3 to tide us over until then.

If we follow the trend we're talking 6 years to complete a story arch. I guess it's not as bad as Half-Life 2. Still, how much will technology have evolved by the time LotV emerges in 2014? How bored will people be with SC2 by then?
I don't think people will be bored. Look at SC BW, 13 Years and people still play it, and it still is god damn interesting(at least for someone), SC2 just started, there are tons of tournaments, balanced changes, new patches, new stuff etc. in front of us.
I won't be bored for sure. I guess other people that are casual players and that are more interested in lore and campaign will be.
"Living for the Swarm!"
I do not. In fact, I'm not even confident in my statement that we'll have D3 to play while waiting for HoTS. For all we know that game could come out in 20X6. Blizzard seems to be the only company that is devoid of the pressures of time. It's great for quality, but bad for our patience.

Blizzard is why people will start volunteering to be frozen in stasis.
They did reveal that (spoilers, select the text to read) Tychus is alive indirectly, they did reveal that Kerrigan unwillingly and not knowing will start the end of the universe and they revealed that most dead characters are actually alive in one way or another.
They Revealed Tassadar will play a huge role and Duran is actually one of the Xel'Naga.
