Well...IGN will not be grading SCII solely on the multiplayer experience. They will be taking into account the campaign, presentation, sound, visuals, performance and a host of other things in addition to multi.
Multi is a huge part of SCII, I agree, but it is not everything in the eyes of the reviewers. SCII will get a decent review. Maybe not a 10...but at least in 9.5ish range.

You think? The critic sites have always curved more to the casual/new gamer than the competitive. Mario Galaxy 2 apparently does a great job of having both a intensive skill component but also a fun base for casual gamers. Now Starcraft 2 surely does as well but their are big exceptions and one of the biggest is that the fundamental zerg mechanic feels unfun.
Thats a mistake Mario Galaxy would never allow.

I do. Besides, we're not comparing apples to apples with SCII and Mario Galaxy. Nor are we comparing apples to apples with the reviewers. Most likely, Chris Harris will not be reviewing SCII.
Also, there is the possibility of reviewer bias. He might be a flaming Mario junky. I'll have to play the game before I can pass my own judgments on this very rare IGN score of 10. They don't dole those out very often. It's a sacred number for them.
As for the the lack of the zerg fun factor, as you put it...I think its a too-each-his-own kind of situation. You either love the zerg mechanics or you hate them. Thankfully, we've got two other races to chose from that aren't as fouled up as many feel the zerg are at this point. I'm not a zerg player at all, so I can't really speak to the problems concerning them with any degree of expertise, though.
While this is true, Mario Galaxy does not have nearly as many areas to review and critique as SCII. And SCII's few shortcomings will, I think, be made up for in spades by the areas where it will most likely get things right. Namely, the campaign, its story, the editor, which will extend the life SCII for many years to come and most (but I agree not all) aspects of multi.

SCII will probably get somethin' between 9.5 and 8.5.

Probably. IGN is the worst site for reviews ever. The only reason I still go there is because they are one of the fastest to cover stuff though.
Btw, what does this have to do with macro mechanics? I've been wanting to close this thread for a while now. If you continue the off-topicness, I will finally have a reason to close it![]()

I only go to IGN to drool over Chobot.
