    APM sinks are things you have to do every X count. APM sinks are bad. We don't want them.

    I changed it to "It doesnt seem like you would use it as often as the macro mechanics" because I new the 30 second thing would make you mad.

    It doesnt seem like the ability would have you going to several bases several times a minute.

    The point is you CAN use it as often, IF YOU WANT TO. You decide when to empty your Silos. Every 30 seconds, or every 5 minutes. If you empty them every 30 seconds, you'll make a small profit in safety. If you empty them every 5 minutes, you'll make a much larger profit, but you risk losing just as much if you don't empty them in time and the Silo gets destroyed.

    Its about giving the player choice, instead of forcing them to do something.

    But for macro play we want the player to come back and visit his bases several times a minute. Your mechanic doesnt encourage that.

    No, YOU want the player to come back and visit his bases several times a minute. As we have proven by the inclusion of hotkeys, coming back and visit your base several times a minute is not a required action of macro, nor should it be.

    Also we have a bunch of macro mechanics in the game to encourage players to control their economy better, because as you know in Starcraft, economy is king. One of the things that we loved about the original Starcraft was not so much that we want you to click a bunch, but that there was a lot of tension between players who were micro-oriented and players who were economy-oriented. For instance, if you are playing Zerg and are micro-oriented and I'm playing Zerg and I'm economy-oriented, we're kind of playing two different races — not exactly, but a little bit. We're having a very different experience, and that style difference now becomes the interesting problem for both of us, and that is what we're really pursuing with a lot of this stuff.

    Now tell me. If the macro mechanic doesnt encourage the player to come back several times per minute to his base what is to stop a micro player from doing exactly what a macro player would be doing (and vice versa)?

    I wonder how everyone would like macro if there was a way to make it so that coming back to your base is not necessary, but is more efficient than macroing away from looking at your base.

    Visiting your base does not have to be a requirement of macro. Much macro uses it, like building a new structure. But it does not need to happen all the time. Your quote is erroneous. Your position is m00t.
