I can't deny that I certainly may be, but I'm sure enough about it that I can't ignore it.

Perhaps it was one of those things they tried out for a little while and then tossed?

I don't see that happening with Shield Batteries, why would the Obelisk fare better?

    Cause its a new game.

Didn't an Obelisk cost 200 minerals and only possessed 100 SP 100 HP according to recent stats? It's like offering a sitting duck with a proxy Obelisk.

Obelisk sniping might be a viable tactic

lol @ the thought of sniping a building XD

This must be why the ghost can only snipe organic units.

It's a new game with a building using similar mechanics than a older one, but this time it has half the health and double the cost.

Well a few reasons it might
.. Obelisk Shield Batteries could be auto cast and long range (unlike BW Shield Batteries)
Obelisk Shield Batteries could have a substantial advantage in terms of ratio + rate

also, as for Sniping buildings.... perhaps the Obelisk could recharge its Own Shields.

They could also beef up its hp +sp without affecting the macromechanic too much

If they wanted to make that a viable tactic, they could.

One thing that could have an impact in using obelisk offensively is that protoss players are severly encouraged to have pylons out in the field. Also energy recharge seems to be allot more useful than shield recharge.

The other big change is that now players will usually have at least one Obelisk. If you forget to cast proton charge then you now have left over energy for charging units. Or lets say you build a second one so that you can alternate Proton Charge (that way you dont have to cast Proton Charge on the dot. You can recast it from the second Obelisk alittle early) You will have a fair amount of energy in one or the other that can be used to recharge casters.

Imagine how powerful it would be to phase shift a medivac thats trying to do a hellion drop. Gives you much needed time to build cannons. And with a second obelisk you wouldn't lose any proton charge time.

The StarCraft 2 team has made a number of changes in each of the races as the game gets closer to Beta. These are some of the new weapons and abilities that are currently being tested on the battlefield.

    Protoss Dark Pylon
Long used only by the Dark Templar of Shakuras, the Dark Pylon is now used by all as the Protoss war for survival becomes more desperate. In addition to providing supply and giving power to nearby Protoss structures, the Dark Pylon has several unique abilities that require energy to use.
    Nine months later....
The #StarCraft2 balance team is experimenting with new protoss macro mechanics.

And so here we are. Blizzard has announced that the Protoss macro mechanics are being reworked. While we wait I have one question for the community.

What do you guys think of the Orbital Command and Queen? If Blizzard succeeds with the Protoss version are the other macro canidates ready for beta testing?
