Thread: Macro Mechanics Discussion Thread

Imagine if they took out making workers completly (or automated it like they have now).
Then they give each race a "special economic power"

So for zerg its like you can have as many units as you want. The only thing limiting how fast you want your army to grow is your ability to use the mechanic.

For Protoss its like they have a "unlimited minerals power." They can have as many minerals as they want as long as they can remember to cast it. At some point the equilibrium shifts and you find that making production buildings becomes the limiting factor to army size.

Its like a game where you can turn your mental concentration into army fuel.

I dont exaxtly understand that either Archer.
Do you mean basically armies in an RTS without the need for buildings?

Yah its hard to understand. Ok its kinda like imagining a game where buildings and units didnt cost any money. Kinda like a fastest map.

oh so your saying by the "end game" part of matches people will just have so much money, that it's all about micro and massing armies?

Grounder: I'm not driving. He is!
    Scratch: No I'm not.
Sonic: Driving without a driver? Now you're really in for it.

Sonic: You know? I sure have fun.

Yeah I could see that working, mirco play early-late game, then after that it's an all out slug fest. Although I think that would effect mid game too much, because of increase in Econ around that point.

Alright well that is certianly interesting, but it doesn't seem like the terrans possess such a macro ability of that scale

That and I do like the feel of micro being an important part of the game, the entire time, not just at the start or massing units at the end.

Why wouldnt micro be important mid game?

So in our hypothetical "free building, free units" map we have both players making their base and units and they send the units to fight. But the player that then micros psi storm and such is going to still have a huge advantage.

Yeah but then when theres so many units psi storm > everything.

I would rather keep that idea for a UMS, not that it's not good!! but just cause the formula for SC works so well, keeping the Econ tight, until 30min+ games when the all the bases on the map are taken up.
