Thread: Arbiter vs Mothership Poll

    Default Arbiter vs Mothership Poll

Currently, the Mothership works as a Base Defence unit. I am wondering whether people like this over the role the Arbiters played in SCBW gamepley. Which would you rather see in Multiplayer?

Arbiter (Fast, Cloak, Recall, Blackhole) and Mothership in Single Player Caimpaign

    or

Mothership (Slow, Cloak, Planet Cracker, Blackhole)

Honestly, the mothership. Because I've already seen enough of the arbiter. It won't add any new strategies despite the new units, because its abilities aren't specific towards anything.

    Recall army into base.

Stasis siege tanks. It's the same.

    Mothership > Arbiter

However, Offensive Mothership > Defensive Mothership

To clarify you would rather have an Defensive Mothership than an Offensive Arbiter?

Personally, I really dont think that cloak, vortex and Planet Cracker work on a slow unit. You would have a much more dynamic play if the cloaking field can move across the map fast. And I love the divebombing recall. It makes for so many OMG moments. Not to mention you have the emp vs arbitor cat and mouse game. Lets face it. The Mothership is a sitting duck to ghosts.

Now I am not against a slow moving unstoppable unit (works great for thor). I just think that cloak, vortex and planet cracker become very uninteresting if slowed to that speed.

    Essentially, yes.

Mothership - despite slowness, has the hitpoints to pull off a good portion (if not all) of its special abilities arsenal - plus, by building pylons in some interesting spots, I can see offensive uses of wormhole transit (combined with warpgate production) becoming a pretty powerful strategy.....

Problem is, will games last long enough to do this?.....or for that matter, long enough to even see a Mothership....?

Arbiter was my favorite unit in SC1, but I'm willing to give the MShip the benefit of the doubt (not like I have any choice) and see how fun it turns out to be. Its speed is painfully slow, but I see it more as a defensive unit with building cloaking. Just warp it to any base that is under attack and have it cause everything to disappear. Seems like it could be really fun to use for ambushes by trapping units with buildings. Leave a choke open, let units pass through, and then warp in the MShip and wall off the choke with cannons or pylons. If the units lack detection then they won't be able to pass through any buildings and can get trapped.

Do wish it was slightly faster, but I trust they can balance the speed.

Does it even still have planet cracker? Seems like a useless ability given its speed. Oh how I wish they'd give it the translocation spell I proposed (target any two units, friendly or foe, to have them swap places).

I'll take the Mothership, mainly because I've grown fond of the unit since it was first revealed. I still think they need to keep it as it was first shown being a unique unit and only having one of them out at a time with it's original abilities.

Frankly, Arbiter, it's more attainable and can keep up (sort of) with the other flyers, where as the MShip is tough and powerful, but oh so very slow. IMO the best thing they could do with the MShip is to drop it as a multiplayer unit, and replace it with an Arbiter, or Arbiter-analogy (maybe the Star Relic).

Or we could just make the MS move faster.

    Duh.
