Thread: Chronoing a Zealot Produces Incorrect Results

Default Chronoing a Zealot Produces Incorrect Results

    What you need to know:
    - A chrono boost causes a building to produce 50% faster for 20 seconds.
    - A Zealot takes 38 seconds to produce.
    - Game speed for this test was on faster.

    The experiment:

    THEORY:
Chronoing a zealot should reduce its build time to 19 seconds (50% of the 38 second build time). Since chrono lasts 20 seconds this means that a chronoed zealot should come out just when a chrono runs out.

    REALITY:
I started producing a zealot and chronoed it immediately (the game timer was at 2:40). When the chrono ran out the zealot had not been produced yet and the zealotís time of being produced was at 32 (the game timer was at 3:05, so production was 25 seconds of in-game-timer time). This means that the chrono only lasted 16 seconds when it should have lasted 20 seconds.

    CONCLUSION:
Perhaps this means the chrono was changed to 16 seconds duration without a patch-note. That is the only explanation I can think of. Thoughts?

*the time it took me to cast chrono after queuing a zealot was accounted for.
**game timer comments were just a reference
***I have not tested any other units, or on warpgates

I believe your thoughts on what "50% faster" means is incorrect. 50% faster does not double production speed; it is a math misconception that many people have... I believe http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Chrono_Boost has an excellent definition of how an increase of "50%" really works:

"...used to increase the production or research speed at the target building by 50% (i.e. reduce build/research time by a third) for a total of 20 seconds."

A third of 38 is 12.64. Rounded up, it's 13 seconds. This translates to a 25 second build time.

    Mystery solved.

    ROFL,

everytime I see a Programer's thread, I am ready to laugh. And again, you made me laugh lol. Like 13th Legion said, it's 50% faster, not 100%.

In other words, the speed is multiplied by 1.5 (150%), thus, the build time is divided by 1.5.

100% faster would be twice as fast. In that case the speed would be multiplied by 2 (200%), and the build time divided by two.

Aha, I see now. Thank you very much for clearing this up.

And you don't need to laugh at my threads telling me this makes me not want to post and that hurts.

    stuff like that happens...
you made unknowingly made a mistake and asked...

at least you didn't remain silent...
now IF it would be a 100% faster....
now THAT would be interesting... and a bit too powerful...

Hes just joking around...don't take everything so serious...we all know what u ment though...u thought by 50% it was fun in half basicly so it only has 50% to go, which is reasonable we all knew what u ment and how it can be fixxed.

I haven't noticed the build time increase for zealots tbh.

@13thLegion I was wondering about the Chronoboost myself. Thanks!

@TheProgrammer Agreed, posts with insult-for-injury just aren't necessary. You dealt with it calm and assertively, while others complacently let it pass. Thumbs up on both of your posts.

Easy facts to use for Chrono Boast -

Chrono Boost lasts 20 game seconds.

You will get 30 game seconds of production in 20 game seconds. (Duration of Chrono Boast)

If the research/build time greater then 30 seconds. 1 Chrono Boast redues total research/build time by 10 game seconds. (Multiple Chrono Boasts changes depending on over lap of Chrono Boast)

With Chrono Boost you can train 2 Probes in 24 game seconds if properly Queued. (34-10)

    Hope that helps.
