    Default Zerg officially suck

    Blizzard did not say that, but they might as well have. The last 3 top 200 from eu and us have been all Terran, than Protoss and few Zerg.

    This is also the best way to look at it, since if we look at bronze league those players don't represent the best each race can do, but at the highest levels it almost does.

    But why are Zerg weak? Are Terran and Protoss just more powerful or is Zerg just too weak? Is it in the mechanics, units, buildings, strategies?

    To me its seems to be 2 things, that zerg are weaker compared to other races terran and protoss and the maps are too small and with tight choke points.

    Zerg can be very effective, but those 100 zerglings need big spaces in order to surround the opposing armies. They are worthless if they come from one tight path, they just die one by one, same with roaches, hydralisks and pretty much all other zerg units, except ultralisk and broodlord.

    I feel that Blizzard should work on more professional maps, or include some good user made maps to their ladder, of course after serious testing.

    I also think that Zerg lack a great tier 2 unit to transition to. Hydralisks are good, but they are essentially a roach just less durable, but more attack powered.
    Mutalisks are good, but they have very powerful counters. 1 for 1 a mutalisk can only win against a marine.
    Terran turrets are uber strong vs mutalisks, thors do area effect damage to them, vikings counter them well also and even marines do effective job of countering mutalisk.
    Its a bit different with Protoss, but than again Protoss are not really the problem, its a more fair fight against Protoss.

    I think that Blizzard really need to fix either turrets or thors, not to counter mutalisks so effectively.
    Reducing Siege tank damage is a call in the right direction, but the marauders are the jack of all trades for Terran. They either need to be more expensive, be more fragile or have stim removed from them.
    When stimmed their DPS goes through the roof and are the most powerful unit in the game.

    Go to youtube.com/psystarcraft and go watch some of his games. I think ppl are playing zerg wrong.

    I think it's just harder to learn zerg, so therefore less people are playing them.

    Completely agree with you there Twilice. However once you learn hot to play Zerg well it can be a deadly weapon because most platinum players do not know how to counter a well executed zerg build.

    True, I think the challenges could've made a better attempt at telling you "ok, you always wanna get a queen". The lack of zerg in the singleplayer just make zerg a less noob friendly race, even if there's no intention of it being a tutuorial.

    I think heart of the swarm should offer a lot of possibilities to convert more players to zerg, not just through new mechanics but new ways of immersing people into the zerg race.

    Most people keep their races from SC1, and Zerg in SC1 is even harder to learn. For that reason, I think your argument isn't really relevant for the top tier of play.

    Use surrounds dont just go forward, try at least to attack from the front and back.

    use Mutalisks magic box technique, turrets are good against 4-8 mutalisks but fair very bad against core numbers do to lack of splash.

    Also just to say top players are terran and then protoss is not really fair since it also depends on players and since zerg is the least played race of course they will have less players on top 200, and most players will play terran since they familiarized with terran since thats all you play in WoL(excluding the 4 protoss missions)

    i do agree zerg needs some work when it comes down to spawning larva, and roaches and hydras not being very effective.

    Why would the top 200 players be affected by how many people play at the lower levels?

    Look, this is interesting. Take a look at this page, seems that most people play Protoss, but move the "player group" combo to "Top 100" and press View. It's quite shocking: http://sc2ranks.com/stats/league/all/1/all/

    IMO, I think Zerg in SC2 lost the swarm mechanics that SC1 offered. In SC1, it was crucial for Zergs to have more unit production than the opponent because Zergs were fragile, but were deadly in masses. Zergs attacked in waves and rarely retreat. In SC2, Zergs in T1 could barely build up a decent economy which completely diverts the fact that Zergs are deadly in masses. Now with fragile expensive Hydras that you must never let die, and roaches for tanking, Zergs lost the original feel in which unit loses were not that much of an impact on the game to them.
