My favourite movie this year would have to be Moon

I'm a huge fan of the S.H. stories and I think they're going to ruin it. Too much comedy (stupid) and not enough of the real S.H. That being said - I also hate jude law.

The thing that bothers me the most about it is that they're making him into a superhero type character. Its not gritty detective its more beat the shit out of everyone blah blah blah.

Hmm it's too bad you hated public enemies Rainbow. I haven't seen it yet but I hope I'll like it, and I probably will considering the general atmosphere the film seems to have. I've got to agree that Moon is a great film.
Concerning Sherlock Holmes... we're talking about how good a movie is, not how much it resembles the book it was inspired from... So yeah, maybe Sherlock Holmes fans will be disapointed because it wasn't consistent enough with the books, but whatever, as long as a movie has a good script, scenario and acting you've got to give it that much credit.
Obviously I'm just using S.H. as an example. It won't be out for another few months and it could be the worst movie ever. I'm only hoping it will be good : ). And I don't really mind if it doesn't follow the books exactly, although that would be a plus since I loved them too.

Nooo Avatar is going to be the equivalent to the cartoon as Dragonball Evolution was to its cartoon.

My vote thus far goes to Taken or Gran Torino, looking forward to Inglorious Bastards.

I am also greatly disappointed in the big name titles of the year.

i've heard transformers is terrible, and while i haven't seen it, i don't doubt michael bay added too much "KRAW! KRAW!!!!" to it. (south park, anyone?)
star trek is pretty awesome.
terminator 4 is mixed reviews from what i've heard.
hangover is funny, but no comedy about getting smashed in vegas will ever win best picture.

how about UP? it's a pretty funny movie, and even though it's animated, has a lot of stuff going for it (namely, that it was made my Pixar, who've yet to create a flopper).
