Thread: Cannon Warping up Cliffs

    Default Cannon Warping up Cliffs

    Good Evening,

Last night on the B.Net an ally of mine was surprised to find cannons warping in behind his base without power from a pylon up on the cliff top. Upon further inspection we could see the pylon at ground level was giving power to the cannon as you can see in the screen shot (lucky this was before the cursives).

Since I dont have Brood War installed since I got Windows 7 - 64 I was wondering if you could do this sort of cheese in SC1 (from what I can remember you can't) and what peoples opinion of it was?

Cheeses gone too far? Or just suck it up? Behind rocks/up a ramp is fair enough IMO but a pylon supplying power up a cliff - well I'm not the biggest fan of it

They did the same in Broodwar. Just better scouting- thats a place I will always check on that map.

MY GOODNESS!! DUDE!!! WTH DO YOU THINK THE PROTOSS ARE!!??

Protoss are a race based around scionic energy. What, you think that Pylon energy its horizontally based? its a sphere of energy emitting from within the centre crystal.

Protoss aren't technologically incapable to emit energy up hill I'M SURE!!

WTF? This is completely normal. The Pylon power field is an AoE, it doesn't needs to be on the same terrain level. If you nuke the lower terrain, higher terrain is going to be affected, and it's the same with any AoE stuff. You need vision to warp units in, however.

By the way, it works the same in BW, and BW works in 64 bit operating systems. I have it installed. I think you need to install DX9, however (yes, even if 7 already includes DX10, seems like the days of good programming are long gone).

If this were a discussion about lore it would be in the lore section (or at least I don't think it is )

You could do this with desert oasis until the map was patched though. I guess the 2v2 maps aren't on par yet... which is to be expected, otherwise it'd be in the 1v1 map pool.

Yeah, this was possible in SC1. I did it on many maps where cliffs were around my base and had space and pylon coverage. Haven't tried in SC2 yet, but I'm not surprised the option is there.

As for SC1 not working on DX10 (which I assume is DirectX10), mine works just fine. The colors go a little wacky from time to time, particularly on a fresh load, but a few alt+tabs fix it (on average, 2 to 6).
