    Default Interesting GSL Updates!

Hey guys, since we don't have a discussion here on this massive event which I'm sure a lot of us are very excited for, I thought I'd get the ball rolling!

That's RIGHT! ZERGBONG, now known as NesTea, is in the Ro64! I'd personally like him to win just for the hilarity! XD

FOUR foreigners made it into the ro64! Idra, TLO, Artosis, and Torch! Considering how few foreigners even made it to Korea for this tourney, I think this really shows that the Koreans aren't as far ahead as they think they are in terms of skill.

If there had been an equal number of foreigners and Koreans competing for places in the Ro64, I'm sure that we'd see foreigners securing a fair share of spots.

Again, here's another breakdown of the Ro64 players:

First 32 decided on Day 1 of the qualifiers

Second 32 decided on Day 2 of the qualifiers
    http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft2...nal-32-decided

In another interesting GSL development, one of the ro64 players is only thirteen years old! The Terran player MARU:
    Hidden Content:

Definitely interested in seeing this kid play! Only 13 years old and in the ro64....my goodness 0_0.

And now, for a message from the Global Manager of GomTV:

I know that many of you are anxious to see replays, however there were about 1000 contestants for preliminaries and as we were trying to get it over in two days, we didn't have the luxury to provide them.

But stay tuned! The opening match will be held on 4th of September which is next saturday at 7pm KST. 16 players out of those who made it RO64 will be playing that day, which we plan to broadcast. Those who do not compete in the opening match will have their match at our studio, and their games will also be broadcasted.

Rar! No replays or vods for now it seems, but on the 4th of September, we'll get all that good live stuff! Bring it!

Who are you guys rooting for? Who do you want to see TRIUMPH IN THE FIRST GSL TOURNAMENT?

I'd like to see the foreigners go far! Particularly, Idra and TLO. However, like I said, I'd also like to see Zergbong up there .

I also think it'd be very good for the community as a whole if a foreigner won this GSL. It'd tell Koreans that they've got real competition now, and it'll let foreigners know that the whole world can compete and encourage more global events, hopefully!

You know, I watched CellaWerra playing on his stream (when he was playing 'proper' games, not the smurfing he sometimes does ), and I have to say that I don't think he's as strong as Idra. I haven't seen as many games of other famous SC2 Korean players, but if Cella's any indication, they shouldn't be a whole league above a player like Idra.

    Who is zergbong? o.O

Also, the game is quite new so people are still improving on the skill department. Current skill level is probably barely c on iccup.

I really like tester and his playstyle, so I want to see him do well.

I've only seen a couple games with him, but I'm never going to forget THIS one just because it's the best casting ever done .

    as i like to say, TEE-EL-OH! HERE-WE-GO!

... it feels cool to have seen him play enough, to know that its quite unlikely that hell hold back on his creativity on any level. seeing him go far would be epicly entertaining and great for the scene everywhere!
I am an enthusiast of good strategy games, sc2Esports and rollplay, although i dont really play anything atm.
I work an internship at a government agency this fall, and have a good time at it.

Zergbong was a former proteam coach I believe. I'm very excited about this tournament but I wish gomtv would update their english site rather than having to scour tl all the time for translations. I'd really like to see some of the korean players in action for some variety. It was great watching Tester emerge and absolutely dominate. I'm a big fan of idra and TLO but I'm also a big fan of great games. I'm very happy with tasteless and artosis commentating but sdm really grew on me, especially with all his insight of what goes on behind the scenes
I really need to change this...

    This just in from GomTV:

I am aware that I mentioned there is a possibilty we will provide low quality streams for free as we did for BW Gomtv Classic. However, for GSL all streams and VODs will be charged. There will be two versions, a high quality one and a low quality one. You can choose depending on your computer and internet performance.

By the gods, this is ill news indeed! I was looking forward to watching the stream for free . Some people on TL think that there'll be a free Korean stream sans English commentary by Artosis and Tasteless, but I don't know if that's certain.

lol just after I complain about them not updating their English site it's updated. They listen to me! :P

I bought the premium pass for Intel Averatec S3 and I'd happily get the same for the GSL, except despite having a 20Mbit connection I can't surpass 200kb/s to their servers.

Paying for such events is absolutely fine in my eyes, as it's great entertainment and it supports e-sports and SC2.

Edit: It was $50 for S3, and only $20 for a live pass for the GSL. Fairly cheap for >150 games of the largest SC2 tourney to date.

It shows a failure to understand their market though. IIRC and the information was true (TL mods), the matches are broadcasted for free on Korean TV so the only people that HAVE to pay are Westerners ... who will be mostly be asleep at five in the morning.

Plus paying 30$ for something that I have no physical copy of, and, therefore, will have to maintain my own backups (if I can even download it at all), is a bit troubling especially since it'll be free later. 5$ I'd do in a heartbeat, 10$ I'd think about. 30$ I will never do. Ever.

-- Also, how long is a season? I'm reading that each ro64 is a season which means it's about a month ... that can't be right. 240$-360$ a year? That can't be possible.

-- I found an official answer. The first season ends October 2. It was bad enough thinking 30$ every year or six months was bad but .. a month? I hope GOMtv burns

Well speaking for myself, Korean time is one hour off my own so it's no problem for me there. Watching some of the best players in the world for a small fee is totally reasonable to me. Even if they had free streams, I'd still get the premium one.

Judging from TL polls though many people aren't happy about the pricing and aren't prepared to pay, which I suppose is fair enough as a large number of SC2 fans are <18 and students. For me though $20 isn't a big deal and I feel giddy inside about supporting things I like. :P
