Thread: SCLegacy SC2Ranks Division Discussion

I have a specific void ray rush that kills 95% of terrans up to 1500+ (and worked vs afew of them).. but its not "solid".. in other words, if you mess your timing up or they do one certain build order, you are in a bad position lategame.

That being said, Void rays are still quite powerful, you just need to know how to get the most effectiveness out of each one. ALWAYS charge it before going into battle, as they are pretty much useless without being charged, even vs marines. I will even sacrifice a zealot or two while im walking to my opponents front, just to get my void charged and ready to fight. I think that is when I started going from never winning with voids, to 90% wins with voids.

Vikings make voids almost a non-factor though, due to the range. So avert once you see vikings. Phoenix is a good choice if hes going viking/tank, cause you can clear out the vikings then lift the tanks while your army does the rest of the dmg.

I do the 1-gateway stargate build that's on liquipedia. It's great - most Terran players don't know how to abuse the Viking range, so the Void just chases them down. I like to get my charge off on the refineries. There's also a bunch of other miscellaneous void ray micro tricks - like when marines are chasing you, run away to a sharp part of the cliff and hit hold position (it will be 1 or 2 marines vs 1 void ray, no matter how many marines there are). And if you do that near a building as well you can spare time to go back and macro/micro something else.

It's just those marine/ghost pushes that absolutely obliterate this though. :$

The only way i see that working, is if the Terran player has it's pants down. Seriously, if he sees that coming, he will build a bunch of Marines, and you're totally screwed, or i'm missing something?

Also, i don't want to be Nal_ra, just play the damn game with people of my skill in fair conditions, but it's so easy to lose GW vs Barracks with the same cost worth of units. If you need to tech and have better unit control, how can they talk about balance?

like i said Norfindel, if you precharge your voids before fighting, it is MUCH more effective. I dont even run a void in anymore without being charged, unless I think I can get a quick charge on a supply depot handing off the side of his base first.

I might make a strategy article on my own website within the next few days on the effectiveness of the void ray rush vs terran (in this patch).. but it depends on how much time I have, and if I want to share my secrets ;o I have a pretty awesome build/style that just dominates terrans everytime on a lower level.

Dont give up in void rays! They can be deadly. Although I will say at higher levels, Vikings should scare you off. Good players take advantage of the range difference with Vikings and wont let you get near them. I played a game afew days ago and his 4 vikings took out my 6 voidrays fast because of the range/lack of void speed (before upgrade).. so be careful there!

Also guys, I think PvT is eventually going to evolve into 1gate-1robo-fast expo.. Thats the style ive been working on when not doing my void strat, and its proving to be quite effective.

If you need to pre-charge them to be effective, is because they're not effective uncharged, and so, the mechanic is questionable. An expensive unit that is only useful in very precise situations, that must wait several seconds to start been any useful? Even to the point that players start attacking their own units/structures just to get he unit charged? What kind of BS is that? I think they ruined the unit by letting the mechanic to interfere too much. If they wanted to do something like that, they could have added a "calibrate" command that pre-charges the unit (obviously, would timeout as normal, and could even have a longer cooldown to be used again).

the way I look at it, if they were precharged automatically, they would do WAYY too much damage per second at any stage of the game. They do pretty insane damage at level 3 charge, and thats why i say you should always charge them on your own units/something first. Not saying they are 100% useless without the charge, just not as effective as if you have it charged to 3.

Yeh, they would be way too imbalanced if they didnt have to charge up =[ I mean ONE charged void can take out a CC in like 5 seconds. lol

Damn bonus points are helpful. Got my first gaming session in two weeks in this morning and I'm on top of EU (by ONE point haha, I'm sure Todie will knock me down when it refreshes) and over 1k.
Hopefully I can do the same this saturday and use my 120 remaining points.

I wish people would respond to my thread in the strat section though haha : ) I need some pointers

Wouln't been pre-charged automatically, they could have a command to do that, and could have a long enough cooldown to not be possible to spam it, but at least you won't be attacking yourself to charge the rays. It's the same outcome in a much more elegant way.

Anyways, they caused the problem themselves. They removed the middle attack, god knows why, so that the unit needs to deliver uber-damage at some point to compensate for the fact that it has the attack of a Marine for a bunch of seconds.

Didn't they said that they were going to keep hard counters in check? Why didn't they take their own advice?

I do the same deal you do alot skyze and what i like to do if im coming in from behind the enemy where there is no land i have a phoenix with me for two reasons. A. Lifting units to help the vr B. Have the VR charge on the phoenix and then run in. It works out really well i have noticed
