Needs a better source
The opt-in advanced a step. With Warcraft III, there was exactly a one month period between people downloading the programs to scan their computers and people getting Fedexed their beta CDs. However, that sign-in period was only 24 hours, whereas it seems you can opt-in for the StarCraft II beta even after it starts.

How will SCL cover the beta: will you guys cover each update as it happens in it's own news post on the front page like Blizzplanet did with the wrath of the lich king beta? will you do all the updates for the day? or will you do a weekly wrap up of the updates for the week?

Yep, they stopped doing that, its a slight waste of time, so I think you probably download the game from a special site on your email address that comes with the CD key. Or possibily something else entirely.

They will send you a CDKEY via email. You will log into your battle net account and enter your CDKEY. Then you can download a torrent for the beta. You use the torrent to download the game P2P.

I have a feeling it'll only be pvp, but that's just a hunch. How was the original SC or WC3 beta? Can anybody remember back that far?
