This, I think is much more suggestive of the current state of game balance.

When one race is very clearly under-represented in the ranks of the top players, it generally means that race brings less to the table in truly competitive play.

I just think it's a matter of how easy the race is to play. It's easier to succeed with Terrans and Protoss, which is why there's a disproportionately higher number of them on that list.

However, that doesn't mean that if Idra were to switch to Terran that he'd be the best Terran around.

The thing is, the strength of Terrans comes largely from their ability to make a myriad of powerful plays like Hellion drops and Banshee harasses. Although all races reward you for mechanical skill, it's not as important for Terrans or Protoss as it is for Zerg.

I play Protoss and I find they are a tad easier to play but can be countered so easily example emp bye bye shilds/energy and fungel growth 2 things that will help stop most people who play toss in there tracks. So yes toss is easyier for noobs but higher leagues I find its a little harder but hey there is always storm...BLAST NO DARK ARCON!

eh...well, i play protoss because of lore and they're fun to play with..
i also like zerg though they are by far my worst race...

i can't trust people anymore...
i hate playing terran but they're still my best race...

On SEA server, Protoss is even more dominant. Over 50% of the top 50 players choose Protoss.

this is false considering there are a large amount of koreans that play zerg compared to terran and protoss
it's a regional thing imho.

i would think zerg would be the easier race all you do it spawn larva build units expand not really any micro...

No micro? Sure you can just A move, but I really enjoy mutalisk play and if I just send them unchecked into an enemy base, they die. Fast. While Zerg reward macro more than perhaps the other races, they definitely benefit from micro as well. Also, macro seems to be something many people can't get a handle on as you have to do it while trying to keep yourself from becoming too vulnerable.

all that says, I think, is that the meta-game is in a slightly different place in korea than it is elsewhere.

nevertheless, i maintain my stance that a huge disparity in the number of top players using different races can be suggestive of competitive imbalance.

top players get where they are because they are ultra-competitive; most don't bother with underpowered races. if one race is clearly more difficult to win with at a higher level, they'll switch to one that isn't.
