Thread: Guild Wars 2

    Default Guild Wars 2

I really love how Arena.net is marketing Guild Was 2. I find the approach detailed and substantive; I feel it is a fresh approach, and it has genuinely excited me about the product. Today's manifesto video release has peaked my curiosity and interest in advance of the playable demo at the upcoming gamescom in Cologne.

What do you think of what you've seen so far? How do you like ANet's approach to talking about their upcoming product?

Well, as a former GW player I have to say that Anet seems to be somekind of unprofessional sometimes, like the patches they made in the game! They would destroy everything, fix it alittle bit and destroy everything again :S

What I've seen so far of GW2 looks great! I really love the big steps theyve taken, yes they are allitle bit towards the way WoW is, but WoW is the most succesfull MMO so far so I can't blame em,
And how they represent things on Guildwars2.com is great, but it is really simular to the Diablo 3 website on how they represent the different proffesions/ classes and stuff.

From what I've seen so far, I will defenetly buy a copy of it, but will it take over my SC2 time? eeeeehhhIIII doubt it!

I played GW for a long time, and really enjoyed it. I think the reason I enjoyed it so much was that you played in all these run down, poor, downtrodden areas. I duno why, but that was always a big draw to the scenery and gameplay. The Manifesto worries me a little bit, since I'm not really sure how they plan to make their ideas work with an MMO. I say that a little hypocritically, since I played WoW, and I now really hate generic MMO play. Regardless, I'll probably buy a copy, and who knows, maybe I'll really enjoy it.

Isn't that the point of the manifesto though; that they will make this game everything but generic?

If they can pull it off then this will be the mmo I've always waited for. What I enjoy when playing a RPG is the story. If the story suck or is not delivered in a fun way then the game is crap for me. Because of this, I find myself easily bored of MMORPG because they deliver the story in a bad way (like they said in the manifesto: go kill 10 bad guys and then the place will be magically saved even though the bad guys will respawn 2 minutes later).

It's 3:18 am, but for some reason, I'm quite awake, so I went ahead and watched that 'manifesto' video .

This does indeed sound very promising. I never played the first Guild Wars, and my only MMO experience was with WoW (and even then, I never played any of the expansions).

I do wish they had elaborated on their plans a little more. It's one thing to say that they're going to make the player feel like the hero and whatnot, but I'm still no closer to really knowing how they're going to implement that .

In any case, that's an aspect of WoW which I didn't have a problem with. I didn't feel that there was anything awkward about the shared experience with other players. That lady may be all: "oh, YOU'RE the one who's going to save the village from the centaurs", but surely every other player will, as well? It's not like they design this quest that can only be completed by one player and then is impossible for any other player to do.

In the end, I suspect it'll feel no different from playing Diablo 2 singleplayer. You may have done some quest to avenge an NPC's death, but hey - so did every other player. They just did it in their own time.

But that's ok. Like I said, I don't have a problem with that. I'd be up for some free-to-play MMO action, though ^^. AAA quality and polish + free-to-play would be quite nice indeed!

There have been many other MMO's out there that promised and said the same things Guild Wars 2 has said such as active events, visceral combat and getting to the fun right away and all of them have failed such as Warhammer Online and Age of Conan.

The problem was ya, they had active events anyone can participate in of enemies attacking a town or something but the events themselves were very few in number and most of the game was just enemies standing around and quests of kill 10 of this and that like any other MMO. Then you have the promise of more visceral and action oriented combat that might even include combos and all the MMOs that have done that made the same mistakes as well, combat was just like any other MMO besides the fact you had to use certain abilities first to unlock a later ability to use such as use this and this and then you can use this and they call it combos or more active combat etc.

I'll actually have to see how Guild Wars 2 implements this in their actual game before I decide anything about it but so far they are saying the same stuff other MMOs have and none of them have done it right yet.

The key is the "No fee" thingy that will get alot of players interested

I feel the same way about MMOs. I just wonder how they can incorporate endgame content with those types of goals in mind. Also, I wonder what kind of effects the it will have to have the game world be an individual experience, if you want to play with people whose characters may not have had certain experiences or reached certain benchmarks.

If GW2 is half the fun of playing, because it is exciting and encouraging to hear, I think it may be my MMO FRPG the future. I mean, God spoke Polish and wonderful and necessary, and so on, but hey, this becomes a point where you want something a little different, a little bold, taking some risks, and perhaps to are as much a part largest in Poland, as a result, but at least new.
