Play it for a variety of reasons.
I like to make maps, UMS, and even to visualize geography and landscapes for other projects. I play BroodWar on Battle.net for fun against computers and UMS. When playing with my friend Brian, BSing tends to be the MO with big groups of players. =P (I know, I'm horrible.) I also socialize in-game and in chat before the games, either bad-mouthing or talking about upcoming games, or even philosophy.
Variety is the spice of StarCraft life. =]
i play starcraft because of the competition. unfortunately my play is very on and off, so there are months that i get to play alot, and there are months that i barely touch the PC
I play because i love SC.
But currently im retired from Meele and ladders.
Though i do play some nice friendly scrimms from time to time.
You will find me under UMS for the rest of the time.
"The question that has haunted my every being has been answered.
The future is not set, the choices are my own.
How ironic, i see that i have no choice at all.
I am a warrior...let the battle be joined!"
I pretty much just play UMS and sometimes single player now days. I used to do ladder back in SC's earlier years but those days are long behind me.
UMS all the way!
I die terribly in melee games, so i'm not even going to bother with ladder, I have fun working with others usually, Turret Defence is my favourite game type (yes I bought Defence Grid ^^)
I love to watch pros though, I'm really looking forward to the SC2 Spectator mode.
@Blazur: Honestly the game still looks great to me, Blizzard really nailed the art style perfectly.
Awesome topic!
Ladder Player, find me on iCCup! http://www.iccup.com/gamingprofile/we.runei.html
I once microed a drone so well that my opponents computer exploded.
Single player is fun too when you come back and play it after knowing real tactics, (vulture micro)
