Thread: Worse Pathing?

  1. #1

    Default Worse Pathing?

I'm curious, has anyone else noticed drastically worse pathing exhibited by units compared to the Beta days?

My Reapers are getting stuck on everything. Before, they seemed to have some intuitive ability to figure out how to get where they need to go. Now they're dumb as rocks. They'll stand right next to a cliff edge but won't climb it because ... I don't know, they're looking at it from the wrong angle, or something.

I think I've noticed other units doing similar things, but can't really remember anything specific. But I do know I'm having to babysit Reapers a lot more than in the past. Placing the Barracks's rally in the middle of the enemy base is no longer a safe bet that reinforcements are going to come in as I make them.

Is it just me or is something fishy really going on?

Heh, I haven't used Reapers enough to know for sure, but my time using them in the singleplayer has indeed left me with the distinct impression that they are quite imbecilic .

I never played much Terran during the beta though, so I don't have much in the way of comparison!
The only place for a hamshank is on the dinner plate!

There's a reason why Edward Longshanks was an evil git in 'Braveheart'! Down with the shanks! All of them!

The only thing that bothers me is that when you try to move units from the back of your group to the front they push everything in front of them forward instead of finding a way around or the other units just moving out of the way.

Did this possibly occur on a new map that has obstacles Blizz hasn't completely refined yet? Otherwise, I haven't noticed much of a difference but I do agree with Havox that the pushing forward thing is very very annoying. In fact, it has the opposite effect of what you're trying to accomplish when you ttry to move a selected group to the front of your army. It just makes the units youre trying to protect more vulnerable and disoriented as to where they're going.

I've found if you tell a unit to move to an area, and they get blocked by a doodad next to a cliff, they'll get trapped between them.

I've also found that units can be aware of something they shouldn't be when it comes to pathing. On a map where its common to wall off, units won't always path to the ramp, but rather straight at the cliff/gap/whatever nearby if the ramp has been walled off and there is no path through (even if you haven't scouted the ramp to see that it has been walled off).

Yeah that just happened to me just a few minutes ago. He walled up before my probe got there and my probe just sat at the cliff without going up the ramp.

Yeah it did that even during beta. It's both a blessing and a curse. If you're really high level and constantly micro around then it's probably annoying cuz you wana be as close to where you sent it as possible. However, I sometimes lose track of my scouts and it's helpful because they don't die to marine fire often because they go away from the top of the cliff, which also signifies they have walled in.

@Jabber: It might be most useful at a high level since you can know if there's a wall off on a distant base before your worker actually gets there based on your unit's reaction.

I really haven't see a difference between release and beta. Reapers are as dumb as they always were. So are Thors and Ultralisks.
