Default Starcraft 2 iPhone Guides! A Comparison

    Hey guys,
For those of you who have an iphone, there are actually several Starcraft 2 guide apps on the Apple app store that can maybe help or entertainment your Starcraft 2 experience. I downloaded a couple and here are some of my thoughts on these apps.

    Starcraft 2 Guide- http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/starc...360525966?mt=8

This app came out the earliest (I think), therefore its got some reviews already. However, it has very limited functions (only very basic unit details) and the graphics interface is not so good. Furthermore, the data is not up to date and I think the owner has already given up on this app.
So not much to say... and I do not recommend it.

    Starcraft 2 Assistant - http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/starc...361243896?mt=8

This app came out pretty early too and its got some pretty bad reviews. First the guide is outdated by several patches during the beta and I don't think its updated still. Furthermore it features unit and building details but the interface is kindda sketchy. It does feature "good against bad against" details for each unit but I don't think it is very well done.
    Here are the claimed features:
    1) Who defeats who? Attack and Defense! In Starcraft2 units have natural advantages to defeat some other units, but are you clear? Can you build proper units based on investigation on enemy's units to defeat them easily? So, we discover the relationships and show in this funtcion. When you are browsing the relations, you can still click the units above or bottom to browse more!
    2) Technique Tree. You can know very clear map of units and buildings technique tree. This will help to improve your strategy and schedule to play better : )
    3) Details of units and buildings. You can clearly browse the units and buildings, to check their information, like, price, hp/mp, armor, hotkey and so on! By this, you may know deeper about SC2!!!

    Pocket Database for Starcraft 2 - http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/pocke...383089804?mt=8

This app really stood beyond all the other apps for starcraft 2. It just came out recently and I was drawn in by the awesome screenshots it have. Upon using it here are my thoughts. The graphical interface is top notch. I thought this was an app made by the blizzard team. It really fit with the whole starcraft 2 and battle.net theme.
The other biggest feature for this app is the animated models. Unlike all the other apps, this apps features units and buildings and include their animated models. Furthermore, I was able to update the database through their database updater and it appears that it is updated to the current patch.
One other thing i liked is how the app allows you to drill down. For example, on the unit detail page for zerglings, under the good against section, you can click on the unit its good against and it will bring you to that unit detail page.
One con I guess I can say is that the app got slow for a bit when loading a page for the first time. However, I think its the amount of pictures that the app is using that caused it to be slow.
Here are all the features claimed by the owner:
    Spotlight features:
-->Database Updater! All data and stats will be updated after each Starcraft 2 patch. To receive the new data, all you have to do is to click on the “Check for Updates” button in the app. No installation through iTunes required.
-->A Terms and Definitions database. Containing over 50 widely used terms for Starcraft 2 on Battle.net.
-->Fully animated models for both units and buildings!
-->Everything you need to know about a structure or unit! Including upgradables, researches, abilities, vitality, good/bad against, weapons, and other general information.

    Dominate SC2 - http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/domin...371039336?mt=8

This app current have the most reviewed since it came out pretty early during the beta. It features information for both buildings and units. The details include cost, hp, and "good against & bad against" for units (not as comprehensive as I liked). It also contains information for upgrades in SC2.
Here are the list of features that the author claims to have:
    * Learn Hard Counters
    * Evaluate Relative Unit Strength
    * Keep up to date with all the latest Beta news and changes as they go live. An in-app download will keep all your data up-to-date as Blizzard makes changes.
    * View detailed information about Units, Buildings, Upgrades, and Special Abilities
    * Study tech trees to optimize your build orders
    * Familiarize yourself with all the terminology used by the pros with our Codex of Wisdom

    Starcraft 2 Virtual Coach - http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/starc...384933329?mt=8

This app just came out and it claims to be the "most advanced Starcraft 2 reference app". However, although it does have both unit and building details, they are very basic. One special feature for this app are the timers. It is basically a count down timer for larva spawns, chrono blasts, and MULES. It is a cool feature but I had no use for that as I am busy concentrating on my game as opposed to looking at the countdown on my iphone during games. However that is just me, you guys might find it helpful. It also have a tech tree, but it is very poorly done as all the pictures are squeezed.
One other feature is the build orders it provides. It is a good addition but I suspect that it is not gonna be updated in the future. Furthermore, I see myself browsing through the countless strategies online as opposed to on an iPhone app.
    Here are the claimed features:
All of the information for each race.
Unit info (hp damage build time cost etc)
Buildings info (hp damage build time cost etc)
Rush Build strats from the pros
Timers for each race's special ability (larva spawn, mule, chrono boost)
    Tech Trees for each race

That concludes my review, I didn't include any prices as I wanted to write an objective reviewed based solely on the features. let me know what you think!

Seriously, I think he's just some random dude that made this review somewhere on a SC fansite but decided to post it on every fansite he could find, so he just registered real quick and pushed a random combination of buttons to create his username, as if he probably might not come back here.

Kudos to Arkceangel for the Terran avatar and sig!

I did an IP check and yeah it's a bot. But! I won't delete the thread because those are actually decent apps for anyone interested.

    Thread is closed though.
