    If every mission had been about just the main plot of going to save Kerrigan, 30 missions would be far far too many for just that single plot.
    They failed to use the missions in a meaningfull way. They feel completely like filler.
    There are better ways to expand the universe, like the books and comics they sell.
    If you make a game, make sure you're doing a mission for more than grabbing a few credits and magically get an asspulled unit at the start of the mission. Seriously, weren't they even be able to think any reasonable explanations for getting the units?

    It would be like playing SC, and getting a mission that has nothing to do with anything. Just imagine the briefing screen with Hanson saying: "the Zerg are fucking our people", then Raynor says "i'll save them". Then the mission plays, ends, and you continue with another, relevant mission. WTF??? They don't do something like that in movies, because it's extremely anti-climatic. At least make the plot advance somehow, or introduce some variant.

    If they introduce Hanson in your ship, make sure Hanson actually does/changes something. You can even include triggers in missions that get activated if Hanson or Tosh is with you, etc, making the mission slightly different. You could even use the damn hero unit in the mission. Oh, but they wanted to avoid the "your hero died, restart" syndrome. Yeah, well, they could make the heroes rescuable, or something like that.

    Also, all of this was supposed to be about choice and re-playability, which makes the whole thing just an epic fail, because your decisions mean jack, and that don't encourages a player to keep playing the campaign over and over again.

    It's not just that WoL main story isn't as complex as SC1, but it probably isn't even as complex nor epic as SC1's Terran campaign, no matter the amount of dialogue.

    How about that the demo lets players know how things got up to what WoL is. Like how did Raynor got branded as terrorist. A Tychus and Raynor Demo wouldn't even fit propertly because it wouldn't show Zerg or Protoss (even if it could be TvT).

    There was nothing terribly 'complex' or 'epic' about SC1's storyline to begin with. That's just your misguided nostalgia talking.

    It was a good story, but nothing more. It had it's own slew of problems, inconsitencies, etc. Good, but not nearly as good as you remember.

    It wasn't perfect, but it was a lot better to discover that the Confederacy was crap, just to ally yourself with Mengsk, that results to be a sick power-hungry dictator. Every mission has something to do with the story, and none of them feel like filler. And that's to talk about the Terran part only. The Zerg campaign wasn't that interesting to me, but the Protoss campaign was also very good.

    Of course, leaving meaningful choices to the player while keeping an ending could be difficult, but that's the path they chosen. There were just 2 choices in the whole campaign. 2!!! And they didn't made any difference.
