Thread: Firefly similarities

    Default Firefly similarities

I think Blizzard went a little too overboard with Firefly. I love Firefly but some of it was a little too much..

What do hv you guys found?
The Tv station mission chain *was a *total* ripoff of serenity.
They used a firefly song in the bar room cinematic
Jim Raynor's background on a ranch and everything is an exact copy of mal's

I can go on and on but I am too tired

Really? I don't remember the part of Serenity when Jane drive a Thor through Mr. Universe's control room, slaughtering hundreds of Alliance guards in the process.

It's a rip-off in the sense that they're both about transmitting a message.

I don't recall any such dialog, but I may have missed it somewhere.

Everytime I see the word ripoff used in conjunction with mere similarities, I think of this line from Stargate SG-1 director Peter Deluise: "The french call it homage, the british call it allusion....and the americans call it ripoff."
They're big fans of Firefly, which is why they're inspired by it, make tribute to it etc.

The ranch background - It wouldn't be scifi western style if Jim's grew up in an urban environment. Heck his personality would probably have been different if that was the case.

Seeing as StarCraft came out before Firefly, I think we can excuse any similarities between Mal and Jim's personal histories.

I only remember Jim's being developed in Sc2

Then you weren't paying attention, or read any of the books.

While we're on the subject of "rip-offs" (or, as more reasonable people might put it, "homages"), anybody get some sense they've seen this before when Tosh decloaks holding a switchblade?

Play Team Fortress 2 much, Blizzard?

The books came after Firefly and after SC2 development, his backstory was developed much more in SC2 than SC1

Why are you obsessed with Firefly similarities so much? You already made a thread like this in the lore board. And there's not even that many similarities. :P
