Who's that guy who wears this thing over his ears like headphones who's constantly walking around and passes by the screen once in a while?
He's my fave character. And that woman who says, "I do declare!"

Annabelle [Edit]The unlockable portrait shows her as Thatcher

Last night I found out why.
I must have run past it on my first run through the campaign, but now I got the achievement "Find out what Matt won in poker"
By talking to Matt at a specific point, you find out that he unknowingly got married with her, which is why he's avoiding her...LOL

General Horrace Warfield all the way. As if seeing him killing a zergling with his bayonet after running out of bullets, taking on 2 hydralisks (KO'ing one) weren't enough, the fact that he was actually annoyed when his medics didn't immediately amputate his right arm (which was being dissolved by hydra venom) so he COULD HURRY UP AND GET BACK INTO THE FIGHT!?
If that doesn't spell badass I don't know what does...

Jim Raynor.
Yes, Jim Raynor. All the other characters just did not seem to have enough to them to really solidify them as real characters. Jim seemed to have so much more going on this time, and the new graphics really emphasized his internal struggle with his decisions through facial expressions, drinking, watching TV, and his interactions with other characters. The voice acting was particularly nice with him as well.
All of the other characters don't really register to me as more than devices to expand upon Raynor's personality, struggle, and growth. He really seems like such a completely different character, that he seems entirely new to me.
As I followed along with each mission, I found myself trying to think as he would, trying to do the right thing. His struggles with his crew, helping others, his hate and disdain for Mengsk, and his regret, shame, love, and personal responsibility for Sarah made him seem like a real person in a real world, dealing with real problems.
Nice job Blizzard. You've made an old character feel new, and sometimes that's better than a new character.

Egon Stettmann!
His best quotes are during "The belly of the beast"
"Don't mess with me, I'm a scientist"
"EEEAAHHHH" - girly scream
"Glad to see you guys brought the big guns..." "Yeaaa, uhhh no problem"

They were all equally mediocre. If I had to choose, I guess Mira stands out the most as a cool new character imo.
Oh man Raynor has the best Shut up moment - occurs at the beginning of the secret mission Piercing the Shroud
Raynor - Well danger (or something cliche can't remember) is my middle name
Matt Horner - I thought your middle name was Ugene sir.
Raynor - *laughs for a little while then an abrupt* Shut it Matt.
It's probably the funniest moment in the game imo. I can't tell if it was purposely delivered that way or if Raynor's voice actor just doesn't know which emotion he's trying to convey cuz the insult really contradicts the laughter, making it sound hilarious.
Interesting... I remember that being alluded to now that you mention it. However, I just assumed they were siblings or cousins when I was playing.Last night I found out why.

I'd say Swann and I do that because of the advice he gives Raynor (me). One example would be if you kill off Dr. Hanson, he's there to tell you that; with the tech the Protoss have, if they couldn’t find a way to cure infestation, then purifying the planet was the right call to make. Swann just seems as a down to earth no nonsense kind of guy that I can relate to.
One issue I do have with these choices is that they're terribly skewed; if you allow Hanson to live, the refugees find places to stay, if you cleanse the planet and actually give the refugee's a place to stay, they all turn toward the Core Worlds <.> /rant off
