Thanks for for backing up my point, although I'm sure you didn't intend to.Quote:

The game is just a spam fest.
I haven't played a single game where players don't sit in their base, mass, and tech. There is no early game micro. Maybe somebody will send a probe into the enemy's base, but that's it. It's pathetic really.
Maybe I'm just playing the wrong matchups. I know I've seen some interesting 1v1 games, but 1v1 isn't my thing.
This is a joke. Why are you complaining that 3v3 and 4v4 is a spamfest? Try playing some actual competitive games if you want more intense micro. Like Gifted told me, "3v3? I've seen more strategy in pokemon".
You probably missed it, but my point was that the 3v3 and 4v4 gameplay sucks.
I shouldn't have to list other RTS games that have good 3v3/4v4 gameplay for somebody who has as many posts as you Gradius.
This is a flaw in the game, and it's not a joke, TYVM.

I spent credits and upgraded all infantry for the achievement.
I might play again from a very early save and just save money from 4-5 missions, then blow it all to get ship and vehicle achievements too.

O, Rly?I think it is a fundamental misunderstanding to think that the folks in this thread are bashing SC2. Overall, I'd say most people have had a net positive experience with WoL... however, this thread is not about your overall experience, it's about the few instances where things could have been better. No need to lose faith in us just yet, IMO

I personally am loving the single player so far. I haven't had the chance to play the multiplayer due to having a terrible internet, but somehow I doubt it got worse from beta. The lobby/channels thing is gonna get implemented, so no complaints there.
Really, the only complaint I have is a personal one. They didn't include all the SC1 units like they said. I assume they'll be adding the originals for the Zerg and Protoss in the expansions, but that means I'm going to have to wait 2-4 years just to put a bloody Reaver in my map and have it able to be released.

What do you mean optimally? I'm not even really sure what you're asking.Ok, but how do you know it's a flaw in the game? Are you playing 3v3 or 4v4 optimally? Is every single game obligated to be an intense micro experience in the early game regardless of what game mode you choose?
The game that I come from emphasizes constant harassment, in any matchup whether it be 1v1 or 4v4. Each moment is precious, and needs to be used attacking/defending the oppents army or resources in order to win.
I believe that the fun of RTS comes mostly from micro. Sure, base management can add to this, but the emphasis should always be on micro. But I see minimal micro in SC2. It's redundant spam. Why do I need 4x rax to serve one function, that is unit production? Having to keep up with this macro clutter reduces the time I can spend on micro, which IMO makes for a lame RTS.
So let me leave a question for you now Gradius. If you agree that 3v3 and 4v4 is a joke, and that it's also dysfunctional, do you really think that it's not a flaw in the game that these matchups are so lame? Or are you content with crap features?
I, for one, am not.

Overall the game was good, however, some things that did bug me ...
Stupid, overly 'epic' music in fmv's. This sort of thing only works sparingly and only when it's done well, such as the opening to Broodwar.
Not enough depth to most characters on the Hyperion. I do remember Blizzard saying we're be able to interact with people, learn more about lore, etc. There was hardly anything on Swan, Tychus etc, also very little lore on the larger world, no comprehensive history available to read as an optional extra, it felt really stripped down in many respects.
Certain aspects of Protoss design and execution. Unit portraits were great, voices, scripting and many units were not, they've become parodies of themselves instead of an interesting take on the elder psychic warrior aliens archetype.
Valerian's shoulder pads.
Possibly the foremost: the game was not dark enough. SC1 was a dark, violent, political sci fi with cyberpunk, gothic high fantasy undertones, SC2 was lighter both in terms of characters, dialogue, art direction and overall tone. Really bad move on behalf of Blizzard. Not enough gravitus.
Characterizations. Mensk had so much weight in the original, so did the Protoss, Zeratul... not quite sure why I didn't feel it the same way in SC2, but the characters just seemed weaker and shallower than in SC1.
More later.
Even still, I give the single player 7.9/10.
This is coming from a long time SC fan who literally counted down the days to the release of the original, so I am comparing it to my impressions of the original, plus what I can reasonably expect from a game that's been in development for 5 years.
