Thread: What DON'T you like about Wings of Liberty?

I think the game kicked total ass and the storyline was good but rode on the original (obviously) and couldn't stand on it's own.

Biggest problem with the game: The story took on WAYYYYY more than it could, it was too wide in scope and lost focus. I know this game takes on a lot of Firefly influences, even having a cheatcode based on the show...remember the movie Serenity? It was just okay, right, because the plot was gigantic while the movie was only an hour and a half, so the characters were overwhelmed and ignored .

Serenity had to tie in a BUNCH of stuff in a small amount of time from the much longer Firefly. Starcraft 2 is very similarly large unfocused plot (while the protoss campaign was nice those missions should have concentrated on Raynor and just added too much confusion and unanswered questions, why couldn't they leave these for later and solidify the plot? They didn't exactly add anything to Raynor's plot. These things could have been introduced slowly in a streamlined process. What happened to good storytelling that slowly unravels things? The game started off like this and towards the center the gradually progressing plot just opened up into confusion)

The Starcraft universe was dead and they needed to pull everything into Starcraft 2 so the old lore can continue into the next games. This was a huge task and when pulling all this info in such a disorganized way it diluted the plot.

Another mistake: Tosh and Hanson. Yes they were great storylines, but again they're not even straight cannon lore as they were "decision" missions. AND they ignore the real storyline hardcore fans like LOA have been living for the past 10 years

Suggestion: Smaller cast. All this emptiness shocked me when Char popped up, I was like wow, the game is over already?

Mass Effect's storyline is epic, same goes for voice acting, so far WoL isn't...it's average and you can see the plot twists from a mile

spending another 60$ for such game? not happening, the game no where near lived up to my expectations so far

fuck I just throwed 180PLN to a trash

Mass Effect Universe Fan, I support Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for Game of the year award! ME2 still is being the best rated game this year! Keep it up

    I'll make a list:

    Singleplayer:
There wasn't enough "challanges" sadly, I've already beaten them all on gold.

The story-mode isn't clear enough, you get some allies and then you completely ignore them? Also you can go "backwards" if you follow a line completely, and then go back to the first mission in one line it feels like the things you formely did had no effect at all.

But I like the main story of it all, they just failed to deliver it completely. (this is why were still waiting for the expansions, to see what they had in mind. There might be a reason for the missions to be this way, or they have just failed)

They kept the game-play pretty "fresh", and it seems like it is a bit newbie friendly. But sadly some missions on the harder difficulties (brutal) is way fail-balanced. (like Zeratuls last mission) While some of them were to easy.

But they are not really "that" fail to get upset about.

    Multiplayer:
    Ladder games = ok
    Custom games = FAIL

Newer maps doesn't stand a chance of getting into play. (I guess this is going to change)

Autostart system and no kicking. What do we have the "create game" option for? There is no difference between joining a game and creating a game. The game will just autostart whenever it is full, and you can't kick a player. Lets say you are going to play a map 3v3 and don't want to play it as ladder, first you got you and 2 friends in one team. Then one player joins (it's his first time) Then a second player joins who claims he got 2 friends who he can play with.
Great you say, but here's the problem only one of his friend can come because you can't kick. Ok you might argue with the first one and begg him to leave. But here's the problem when the third player enters the game will automaticly start.

No re-play ability with the same players. Lets say you try a map, 2 player leaves (because it's really that easy to just leave and start a new game resulting in ruining the game for others) but the rest of the players get along pretty good and you decide to play this same map again. But you can't, you must first add them all as friends and then go and create a party. If you do this alot your friend list be overwhelmed by people you don't know and won't play with again.

There is also no way to interact with a single player of them, you can't use "/w player1 " or write directly to a player like you used to be able to.

You can't chat while the game is paused, really what's the point in this? What if you pause just so you can focus on chatting while you play. (forgot if it's the same in multiplayer)

Achievements, there's a quick look for achievements on F9. For what use? You still can't check the other players achievements by klicking this button.

i reserve my judgment after we get all the expansions, because for now is an incomplete game...

Oh and I forgot to add, while I love Tychus and his whole story and such it didn;t make any sense. O yea, and btw I wish we saw more of Mengsk instead of 5 minutes and mostly flashbacks...he is a cool character and central to WoL plot, we see none of him...HUH???? We see more of Warfield....wtf?

Highlight to read spoiler commentary, light spoilers

Why would Mengsk give Raynor Tychus who did so much damage to Mengsk. Tychus could have been told to kill Raynor (Martyr my ass...) OR could have just stopped the whole thing or why not just go on the fleet to char IDK ...how did Mengsk know that Raynor would find Kerrigan? How convenient.

    /signed.

I am enjoying the single-player to a degree, but what really pisses me off is that I'm heading out to the country-side tomorrow and don't have internet access there.. So I have to start the campaign from mission 1. Also can't play with my sister since LAN was cut, which is why I'll be playing SC1 there instead. FFS. I feel really ripped off, paying for a full product and not being allowed access to all of its features unless I'm online. How hard would it have been to let me play my campaign offline, with achievements, and then when I finally join Battle.Net it could upgrade my progress to my profile.

Now this is my opinion, overall I love this game and must admit its easier to point out the faults then the rights
and it must be said that this is only the first campaign and it was a great stepping point but liberty in its own well...
these where my biggest problems regarding campaign and story telling

The most glaring fault as I saw it

Was the shiny graphics/models and non interesting characters

it felt like I was playing red alert 3
Even the last mission was incredible shiny

The only terrain settings that worked was the desert setting (which looks great I might add)

To sum up the model problems

    - What is with hero units being bigger? This ruined just about everything aesthetically, only zeratul looked good (The oversized carrier in zeratuls mission make a good example)

    - Everything is a toy and looks well.. dumb, doesn't look serious
The best example of this is some of the old sc1 units in sc2 like the Goliath

Remember the cinematic on the arigo? The science vessel in starcraft1? It wooped the floor with all the sc2 cinematics

Don't get me wrong, sc2 had its good moments like tosh (throwing around tychus was hilarious) and matt about his wife

But... hmm well you can best put it like this:

Try to imagine the starcraft1 ending with De Gaulle

Now picture that with starcraft2 graphics

In my opinion it just doesn't compare
Comparing the kerrigan model is a good example as well

All of this annoys me because it feels like something better could have been done

Just one or two dirt/crap layers over and don't make the colors so damn shiny

And just stop with the fiddling with models the most shown, the most iconic starcraft unit the MARINE was just utter terrible in starcraft2
even in cinematic he looks like a toy, if there were somewhere where they dropped the ball on units, it was the marine
Now I might be too harsh here, Or I might be too nit picky but the marine is truly the starcraft mascot and most iconic unit and therefor really needed more attention.
Again the arigo science vessel is a good example
The marines all had different colors on their suits and they were surprisingly more detailed (not pure graphics detailed but they got more stuff on them and so forth)

In sc2 the marines feel like stormtroppers in the cinematics, the whole ''we lost so many'' in the end with lots of marines looking about and on the dead didn't really do anything for me not at all like the marine looking upwards against the battlecruiser, slowly drifting off

    Comparison

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFARMkSPAok&feature=fvw

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gdhxw...eature=related

    One is from 98

    One is from 2010

Now before I talk here, this cinematic actually made me care about raynor, care a little but the marines I couldn't give a rat ass about compared to the one from 98
(Remember this is the marine part of the discussion hehe)

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________________________

    For storytelling and immersion

Why didn't we get to spend any time with the crew? No backstory on tychus in the game
    Nothing on tosh

And the whole news thing while hilarious at times felt a little poorly, I could completely disregard mengsk until the hologram with valarian

At the end I was going ''I don't give a flying fuck about this sector, I am going to bills gas and grub''

In starcraft1 there were many characters adding to the suspension like duke, fenix, De Gaulle AND stukov, zaaz, overmind, dagoth, tassadar, the one in the conclave, artanis, razgal, zeratul and so forth.

In starcraft 2 we have: Valarian, the protoss chick, the doctor, tosh, nova, the scientist oh wait... all of these had like 3 minutes of real screen time yet many were very interesting (tosh especially)

When it gets down to it we have: Tychus, the mechanich bowler (God I can't remember names 5 minutes ago) and uhh uhhh the fanatic protoss guy?
Now I am going to throw in the general and valarius for terrible terrible damage and one guy who actually felt mysterious and wanted me to know more (Stupid haircut ruins a lot tough) But of course I know I am missing someone, but just that shows how little I cared about the new cast... and its not just because of me its because how little chance I got to care about them

Mengsk small putrid appearances sums this part of my nitpicks up
Even tough the gettysburg scene was strong they should have shown some cinematics about the other sides, like mengsk in his palace and so on.
There is no character building in liberty it feels

Lets compare mengsk to his news appearances in sc2

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8mmX...eature=related

I thought raynor would make this comeback later on, but no he does it before the first mission.
It didn't feel like I was building up a rag tag army avoiding the dominion before I was strong enough.
Just felt like I could go anywhere

    To more sum it up

'' As one guy said: This game should be rated E for everyone''

    Ps

Overall I loved this game, it is incredible but the story has glaring issues and those where the one I mentioned
Do not think me as starcraft 2 hater I will defiantly recommend this to my friends... oh wait they play wow

But ye overall this game was great, Just some issues on the storytelling part
but we'll see what blizzard has in store for us, I really hope this was just a stepping stone and we'll see a more story involving game in heart of the swarm'

    Pss.

I now remember its the amerigo not arigo amrigo or whatever I said :P

    Psss.

Regarding other problems the most fail things is:

    - No lobby system like wc3
    - No cross continent, you actually need a game for each game (this is what I heard all up before release unless its been changed for release then please correct me)
    - map list is a step back from wc3 (no search function etc)
    - Friends and trying to get private games is screwed up
    - No lan is a HUGE step back

    Battle net 2.0 things mostly

    *sighs*

Only the attitude of the community disapoints me. So far the game is really great. Yes maybe the plot is too wise and Blizzard tried to show all SC Lore in a single campaign, but still it's very great.
