Thread: Zeratul side missions are terrible

I didn't mind the side missions, they were interesting to me, though like Gurluash said, I would've liked to control some Scouts.

What I hated about them is Zeratul's voice. I understand the original voice actor died, but really, they should've at least TRIED to find someone to replace him.

Zeratul in SC1 was a total badass, always mysterious, talking cryptically, yet you could understand him perfectly, he was extremely subtle, he talked quietly and never let his emotions take control of him.

In SC2 Zeratul sounds like he's high and has no idea what's going on. He's always confused about something and lacks confidence. Not to mention that the SC1 Zeratul would NEVER stand in front of ARTANIS' army and give a speech about how 'THEY SHALL NOT PASS'. He even yells at the end. Seriously, it's like this is an overzealous Zeratul fanboy, not the real him.

Well that's direction and scripting. Don't blame the voice actor... o_0

Though I'd argue Zeratul being confused and lacking confidence was because he'd killed Raszagal and was trying to uncover something he didn't know anything about.

I actually thought he did a good job matching the spirit of the original actor's voice and he sounded enough like him.

Though the yelling was a little odd... but I never heard those bits at the end of the mission because Zeratul had died by that point... uh... woops.

Yeah, my bad, I guess I shouldn't really blame the voice actor for all of the faults.

However, Zeratul had killed Raszagal in BW and we know how he feels and what he's like after that, in Dark Origin he didn't know what was happening, too, but he still sounded like he was on top of things.

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little, it's not like this destroyed my vision of the story or something, but it was a little annoying to downplay one of the most badass characters of the original like that.

Meself racked up 4376 kills in that mission with massive numbers of Colossi/Stalker/Void Ray/HT/Phoenix and walling off with warp-gates and building cannons behind while abusing the high ground advantage to storm and using the mobility of air units to support where there are the most units attacking and to stomp on nydus attacks

Loved that mission to death !

I think the Aiur mission could've been made longer and added more story elements to it, but I still enjoyed playing it

I just got 200 pop of fully upgraded carriers and walled of the upper ramps, nothing passed

Have no idea how many kills I got but sadly enough I didn't pay attention enough and some sneaked on the bottom and started killing my base slowly but steadily

All in all, was one of the missions I loved the most

Definitely my least favorite episodes in the game.

Gameplay-wise, the Hybrid mission was super annoying (unreasonably tough) until I figured out that there's really only one unit type that can stand up to it (Immortals) so you're just supposed to mass them. Then it became even more annoying. That's really fun, right? Massing one unit type?... lots of replay value there... the first mission was pretty good though, and "Die well" is, if nothing else, original.

But story-wise, yeuch. I don't mind Fred's work as Zeratul, but they gave him baaaad lines. I mean, ultra mega bad. They keep trying to spin him as this mystic/prophet with this vague cheesy dialogue, and that's not who we fell in love with at all. He was a (dark) warrior poet, not some Yoda-wannabe.

I don't think the Prophecy made any sort of sense. For instance, Zeratul started this whole thing by saying that Kerrigan's coming was foretold. As in, eons and eons ago. Really? Where was that in the Prophecy? I don't remember Kerrigan entering the picture until the Overmind (plot twist? ) decided to infest her to free itself. In-mission/cinematics he kept going on about the prophecy but it's like he'd heard a different one than the one he told us, because the information never matched up satisfactorily.

And then all the "Woe is us, if only we had KNOWN to save Kerrigan..." stuff was poor form. It makes sense for characters to think it, but it just comes off as such unnatural, stilted exposition in-game.

Oh my gosh, I just played the zerg hybrid mission again because last time I beat it with cheat codes just to get it done... but now I hate it even more because the first time through I didn't notice what zeratul said...

Zeratul: A protoss and Zerg hybrid, who could have created this?!

excuse me, is your memory fading you idiot. Zeratul already KNOWS duran has seeded the hybrids on many worlds. This pisses me off so much. I have to wonder if the blizzard writing team ever even PLAYED sc1. Maybe they just sucked so bad they didn't get the secret mission. :P

A Protoss Zerg hybrid in this sacred place? Duran's abomination must be not be allowed to live!

A line like that would have been a thousand times better... oh yeah and it would have actually made sense.
