They are not real Dark Templars though, they have not severed their psionic cord they have simply lost their psy link and have embraced the void.

I think the Tal'Darim are too numerous for them to just be the Protoss that Ulrezaj tricked. The handful of Tal'Darim that survived from the Shadow Hunters novel might not want to work for Ulrezaj or use Sundrop again (though only one did). It probably makes more sense that the Tal'Darim are basically the same as the Fist of Ulrezaj (and Tal'Darim Zealots are probably the few aiur protoss who gave up the khala). This faction itself just doesn't make much sense. :P

I think there were more Tal'darim than those on Aiur. And they have been subjected to Sundrop aswell.
Which explains why they were capturing Dark Templars whom they hate.

But doesn't explain how or why they used Stalkers.
I wonder if the Tal'darim haven't gone through several iterations. In the game they claim to have protected Xel'Naga artifacts for centuries. Maybe Ulrezaj is just a leader of a smaller branch of them. Come to think of it, they may be fairly wide-spread, considering that Sundrop was used on Shakuras already.

Aaand sold.
Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

I wonder if there's some connection between Sundrop and Terrazine?

Terrazine is used to tranform ordinary ghosts to specters.
maybe it's because it does grant some kind of effects on protoss?
Both the Ghosts and Protoss are Psionic entities which leads me to believe that there is some kind of connection.
Ariel mentions at some point if you talk to her that Terrazine influences the chemistry of the brain or something like that...

There's also the "lie" factor. If indeed the Voice in the Dark has that much power around a group of different entities, it might be easier for it to influence those under shock or those who are lost. The Voice in the Dark lives and feed on void energies so it might be easier for it to assimilate the "lost Protoss of Aiur". Just if this is true, it might explain everything. Starting from why protect the Xel'naga artifacts or why they got a lot of power.
Just as part of his colective plan there's always the possibility that he just gathered a bunch of small groups of protoss under the name "Tal'Darim". It might not make much sence right now, but once we get to LotV or even HotS we could see that Artanis' faction encounters this construct of the Voice in the Dark believing that it is still the same faction from Ulrezaj. Then they just start hunting the wrong guy in the middle of the real conflict. Even if Ulrezaj hates Kalai protoss to his core there might still be an alliance possibility.
I justify this alliance on the believe that the Voice in the Dark can only be killed by starving it from energy. Ulrezaj is probably one of the only protoss that has enough knowledge to trully conect itself with void energies and start eating this kind of energies in the area. With enough focus he might suck up enough energy to start draining the very soul of the Voice. Deathly to protoss? True, but I don't think there is another way of killing an unembodied being.

Personally I think "Tal'darim" is more of a general title then the name of a specific faction. The name might be translated to something like "Believers in the Ancient Gods" or whatever. That would explain why both the people on Aiur as well as these other guys call themselves Tal'darim, even though they technically aren't part of the same faction.

Tal'Darim means "the forged". It was the specific name given to the Aiur protoss that Ulrezaj enslaved.
