I think it's very insulting to say LAN players are pirates. SC1 has LAN, and was on NPD top-10 list last month.

People buy games they like. LAN has nothign to do with it.

If anything, things like ICCUP might make people pirates, since it's the whole shebang service, pirated.

Who would use LAN and a pirated copy anyway? It's really just for the convenience of having LAN if you want.

As for Battle.net services, it won't really matter, if you don;t have internet, and not able to play LAN, that is the main issue....

LAN allows for the use of services such as hamachi and garena that would, basically, allow pirates to play together. No LAN will mean that if people want to play multiplayer, they will need to purchase the game, or the new battle.net system will need to be cracked.

If you don't have the internet, you probably don't know that the game doesn't have LAN yet.

It's not that people pirate copies to use for LAN, but many people will share one or several discs for a LAN (if they're playing specifically for the LAN and not everyone has a copy), this is an anti-piracy measure against that.

I don't think anyone was trying to say that people who LAN are pirating the game, this is just an extra level of insurance that people who are LANning can't pirate the game. That's all.
I'm so bad at SC, but I love it so much!

Well, hamachi is hardly user friendly. People who are that dedicated to using piracy will just use a hacked copy with custom servers instead of battle.net.

The point is that LAN in itself is no harm, just a good and useful feature in addition to the awesome Battle.net.

so I am a pirate cause I want to play with my neighbour via LAN?
I mean whats the problem to pirate the game via battle.net?
No game company have ever made such anti-piracy protection that would work 100%.

I will buy SC2 thats for sho and want to see the LAN feature

This is true, but this will make it harder. You have to respect blizzard for trying to protect their financial venues.

Refer to my latest post. You're not a pirate for playing on LAN, this just makes sure that people playing on LAN have an individual copy of the game for each player.

... I used hamachi for years, other than a couple of connection issues its perfectly fine, certainly user friendly.

Before you all act live I've called all LANers piraters, I haven't. I'm just pointing out that it's possibly an anti-piracy measure. Not to mention that the new b.net, assuming it's similar to live or steam, will likely be integrated into the game in such a way that it is easier to be connected to the service and hit "join friend" that hosting a LAN game.

I've started a petition to >PERHAPS< get LAN back into sc2
Petitions don't work. They never have. Not online, where all it takes is 2 seconds to sign onto one.

Does Diablo 3 still have rainbows? Yes. Case in point.

Further, we don't even know what the features of BNet 2.0 are.

we are connected to the same ISP, if we are trying to play StarCraft on battle.net it lags!!
No, it does not. Being on the same ISP would make your communication faster, not slower. B.Net does not provide servers for you to play on. It provides a matchmaking service. That's why it is free; if they provided play servers, it'd have to cost money like WoW.

The phenomenon you are referring to is the difference between "LAN latency" and "non-LAN latency." SC1 doesn't have a setting for this; it simply gives you LAN latency for LAN games, and non-LAN latency for non-LAN games. The launcher used for ICCUP games can make it so that you play with LAN latency over Battle.Net.

No point,as pirates have some other way of making their pirated copies work.

I have seen pirated version of WC3 that feature a fully functional Battlenet, without connecting to the real battlenet.Pirates can just download a patch to use the pirated copy to run on a pirated battlenet.

The best way is still Steam + frequent DLC.

Information regarding SC2s LAN capabilities was also released - there won't be any, due to Battle.net features that should take their place; but are not currently discussable.
I would like to say now that if their feature is to have you log online to verify your copy and then setup a LAN game between consoles... I would hate to hear you say later the "petition worked!!" which would be incorrect.

I highly suspect that they'll allow you to play a "LAN" game via B.net... just can't reveal it yet.
