Our complaint with the writing style is that while SC and BW were a bit over the top and campy it made sense - there was sophistication and purpose and while I agree that it is too early to really form a totally informed opinion, what've we've seen of the dialogue is far too over the top. It suffers from "epic syndrome" and while you can argue that that is blizz's style in BW and SC you had the direct nature of the Zerg dialogue and the sophistication of the Protoss to balance it out - now we have an entire campaign filled with Lester-esque Terran's. Even Nova sounds like a red-neck (*hangs head in hands*) and while a lot of my aversion to the dialect might come from my personal opinion overall the acting makes the story seem both vapid and overly epic (read: try too hard).

I've started writing notes for SC:L's mega review already but rest assured we'll all play through the campaign a couple of times before we render our judgment.

What you aren't taking into account is that these cutscenes are supposed to be the epic moments in the story. There will be plenty of normal, non over the top dialog during convos on the Hyperion and in missions.

And Nova sounds like a redneck? Not sure what you're listening to but she sounds nothing like a redneck.

Also, this is a campaign about the Terrans, so of course it's not going to have a ton of Protoss or Zerg style writing in it.

I'm not sure what your complaint is. The Terran campaign sounds too... Terran?

Lol! Well said, Hav0x. To expand a little, I don't really hear much 'redneckedness' (not a word, I know) in Tosh, Hanson, Swann, Horner or Valerian Mengsk (his father is also more a Southern gentleman than a redneck). The only properly redneck characters are Raynor, Findlay and Kachinsky. The reason it seems so prominent is because the characters who talk the most (Raynor and Findlay) both have the accents.

I think you use the term redneck too loosely.

Besides, even in SC1 terrans had been space cowboys. I'm not sure what you are thinking of when you cry redneck, but just about every voice I heard from SC1 sounded like a character that fits fine into a firefly, cowbow bebop, or generic "sci fi western" world. SC2 is no different in this regard, except that the art (visual and music) is a lot better

Yes, I think that's exactly what my complaint is haha. It probably doesn't make a lot of sense. And yes I am using the term redneck too loosely. I equate redneck with southern because the dialect annoys me a bit.

Most of what I have seen is text and I absolutely need to see all of the dialogue it could be significantly better. The delivery will def. help make it or break it.

Now to voiceacting this is my list from best to worst (this is just related to the cinematics):

    Mengsk
    Horner
    Ariel
    Zeratul
    Tychus
    Tosh
    Nova
    Raynor
    Horace
    Swann
    Valerian
    Queen of Blades
    Sarah Kerrigan
    Whoa whoa...

You're gonna need to defend some of these placements.

How is Swann and Valerian 4th and 3rd from last position?
Swann/Valerian played their parts perfectly. They got their character across.
They were definetly (at least) better than Horace...

If I had to do this list...

    Mengsk
    Zeratul
    Raynor
    Swann
    Horner
    Valerian
    Ariel
    Nova
    Tychus
    Tosh
    Queen of Blades
    Sarah Kerrigan

I put Zeratul 2nd from top, because a different guy was playing the role, and I honestly didn't even miss the original voice actor.

I agree however that Queen of Blades/Sarah Kerrigan was almost a complete disappointment. Her voice was cracking & sounded a little like a dude.

Tricia Hefner(sp?) was probably chosen because she was an actoress in the Command & Conquer games of which Dustin Browder was the game director. The original VA would have been 10x better.

Tychus, Tosh, and Kerrigan didn't sound natural, so they're closer to the bottom.

As I've said before, the only reason Tricia Helfer is voicing is because of star power. Its the only explanation of why they brought back Robert Clotworthy and James Harper but not Glynnis Talken. Since the moment it was announced I have been pissed. I love Tricia, Canada represent, but the whole thing is kind of insulting.

Any theory on what exactly the artifact does? Other than it deinfests things which is in itself still not 100% confirmed.
