Default The Last Airbender Animated Series gets a sequel

Nickelodeon officially announced The Legend of Korra this morning, a sequel to the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Set for a 2011 debut, Korra will be set after the events of the original series and will focus the new Avatar, a waterbender named Korra. According to the Wall Street Journal:

“The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang - a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.”

Korra’s quest eventually leads her to Republic City - the epicenter of the world of “Avatar.” A metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology, the city is inhabited by people from all nations. Korra finds that Republic City suffers from rampant crime and is also dealing with an anti-bender revolt. Korra is tutored by Aang’s son, Tenzin, is the ways of airbending.

Are you still alive after reading that? Perhaps you should go get a tissue and wipe that drool off your face. Stick tuned to the site for more announcements - many are suspecting more stuff could be revealed at this year's Comic Con.

At least someone might be able to salvage this franchise.

I concur. Effing amazing news. I always thought that Avatar would be THE end with no sequel. Boy, if they manage to keep it of the same quality as the first, I will be a happy person.

Heh, I thought I was the only Avatar fan =P.

I really enjoyed The Last Airbender, and I hope that this one is made just as well.

hmm, I actually enjoyed the animated series years back. I am slightly interested to see where they will go with it. A lot of tv show aimed at 12 year olds nowadays are pretty violent.

They totally left Avatar open to a sequel. Loose ends left to tie up. Whoo!

EDIT Whoa. After reading that summary, I actually have some reservations now. Hrm...

    umm
    ...
what happened to Zuko and finding his mother?

    Fail. in that respect.

otherwise, who's surprised the fact that the Avatar is always reborn and each Avatar has to face a unique global problem leaves this series to infinite milking.

By the way, it turns out that this is just a 12-episode miniseries.

Still, beggars can't be choosers - I'm just happy we're getting more Avatar at all.

I can still hope that we'll get even more in future, though ^______^.

Also, Korra is HAWT. I know all we can see is her back, but I can already tell! ^^

Heh, the franchise is perfectly fine... it's just a matter that the movie was a disappointment for anyone who enjoyed the "character development" focused view of the original series... or good acting... or good character directing.. or character deve-... shit, don't get me started. >.<

Well, in some of the questions regarding it, it will be in the same world, and will have connections we will definately recognize. There have been rumors with the creators of avatar that they are looking into small "OVA" peices that might help explain/tie up loose ends but the last we heard of it was in an interview over a year ago.

Well, actually, many of the Avatars have had a very calm/peaceful existance over their "watch" for lack of a better term. I personally will enjoy a more teenage atmosphere and centralized location on this upcoming series cause it would suck to have the "world in turmoil" after a previous series that took the turmoil out. There's just soo much you can pull off when you try to make a "greater evil" ya know?
