That's an understatement. I would've said 95% trashy cut scenes with brain-dead plot and 5% boring uninspired gameplay.

MGS4 got amazing reviews but Kojima later slammed the console for not being able to handle the leap he wanted to take with next gen games. Point is, who cares what the review is as long as you enjoy the game? Reviews are all about perception of an individual and nothing more. Final Fantasy 13 got good reviews and it was arguably the worst game in the series. Same can be said for numerous titles in the market right now.

If gamespot threw SC2 a 7.0 or a 10 would it really impact whether or not you enjoy or despise the experience of SC2? Like was stated above previously, I have friends that work for IGN and they even tell me that their higher ups encourage "gentle discretion" when approaching big titles from big named developers. And most of the time the review goes through several editors before it gets published. There you have it.

For the life of me, I can't understand how Final Fantasy XIII got any reviews over 3 when Mass Effect 2 got a 9.5

My favorite reviewer is Yahtzee.

Because most pro-gaming websites that publish reviews don't want to lose face with big developers and their VIP benefits. The most honest review publisher I think I have seen is gamespot. They pretty much call it how it is for the most part. They have even gone back and retracted some of their reviews saying "excitement blinded them to the flaws" so I usually go there to see whats up.
