But, seriously, the original StarCraft had plenty of the things necessary to convey the grittiness of the setting and it was rated 'T' and that was 12 years ago. a 'T' game today will be able to get away with A LOT more than that now.

Well the graphics are also a lot better now too.

I'm not sure an exploding face of gore with eyeballs flying out and skull showing while a marine is gagging to death from a sickle through his face would still be T.

But then again, what do I know? If they can throw that in there and make it T I'm happy too. But mainly the topic wasn't about ratings (that was more of a subject to describe what my main point is), but more about the level of grittiness.

I'm perfectly fine with the way the game is now (maybe disappointing was the wrong word, but it was late I was tired etc). However, I think adding a higher level of blood and gore would add to the atmosphere of the game, personally.

Sure, I could go for that.

Unfortunately, that'd have dire ramifications in other crucial areas though. For example, it'd probably be banned in Korea. Remember how the game was 'M' (or maybe even AO I can't remember what happened with that rumor)? If they added much more, it'd be banned. I can only hold out hope that the more conservative countries will get out of that mindset and embrace violence and sex that is for a worthy purpose such as adding grittiness or atmosphere.

Oh please. This is a T-rated game where units explode into fountains of gore at the slightest provocation. There's "grit" and "atmosphere" all over the place.

I have seen few movies and fewer games that needed to "embrace violence and sex" in order to have grittiness or atmosphere. If PG-13 is good enough for The Dark Knight's atmosphere and grit, then what's the problem.

Rather than go through the entire thread for a possible answer to this question. Is the problem that there is not enough gore or that 12-13 yr olds will still be playing it?

I think the M rating only applies to incredibly ridiculous games now, like GTA with prostitutes and F*ck used every other word in the game. I think it would be rather difficult for sc2 to get an M rating purely because of gore.

    ESRB =/= MPAA

You can't compare PG-13 movies to T rated games. Remember how all of the Saw, Hostile, and Grindhouse movies got a comfortable 'R' rating while something as relatively tame as Manhunt 2 got an 'AO' rating.

Also, explode into a fountain of gore? Exaggerate much? Still, those are small unrealistic miniature toy looking things. If the same amount of gore was applied to the in-game cutscenes the cutscenes would be considered more graphic. Refer to Pandonetho's post.

As for it being enough, well, I don't know. I haven't play the game yet.

No. Destroy a Zerg building sometime.

    Refer to Pandonetho's post.
I did. And I still don't see where there is any lacking of "grittiness" or "atmosphere", nor do I see how these things relate to the game's rating in any real way.

Learn to read Mr.robot. I never mentioned a lack of grittiness. I mentioned wanting more, unless you think the cinematics are the epitome of grittiness.

Are you sure you don't all have vaginas? Like between your legs. I'm actually happy with the game. T rating is just fine.http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp

    MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.

    TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

I'm happy with teen seeing as how some parents actually care what their children watch/play these days (Stupid TV stations taught parents about how it is their responsibility to protect their kids from this shit, not the company...stupid parents learning how to parent). Korea has a reduced violence version or mode. Where the blood is like a different color or somes shit. You could see a spot to turn that mode on and off during phase 2 of the beta.

Sex scenes are great and all but they have no real place in starcraft. Starcraft is about killing, killing and more killing. But the game also has to be sellable to a wide audience. In this case like said before the game is aimed at teen to adult.

On a side note: Why would I wanna have a bitch bleed all over me? Dude, you know when your out raping bitches because I know that is the only way you get some, If it's red in the front door just go in the back.
