Who was at that basketball game? Lots of people who have probably never ever heard of StarCraft.

What did that trailer show to those people who had never heard of StarCraft? Cinematics.

So all those people who never heard of StarCraft got their first taste of the fact-paced action RTS though... cinematics. When they think of SC2 they will think of... cinematics. When they buy SC2 they will be expecting... cinematics. And when they play SC2 they'll get... an RTS?

As much you may want to think you're special, this trailer wasn't for you. Something so processed and generic is for everyone. And everyone includes more people who have no idea what StarCraft is than it does rabid fanboys like us.

Regular people haven't seen the gameplay thoughout the development process. These cinematic lies are their first experience with StarCraft. They are being mislead, and I do not approve of it.
And again, if those people that caught interest via that commercial didn't bother to at least Youtube the damn thing, they deserve to have their money lost. Does it really bother you that it seems like Blizzard fooled the epitome of casual gamers?

However, they are not even remotely ashamed of the game itself. It's just that gameplay doesn't make a good TV trailer. Think of countless games like Halo. None of them had gameplay in their trailers. They either had real-life actors, plastic toys, or something else. Does that mean that they're trying to deceive their audience? No. Everyone knows what Halo is that was going to buy it. They just felt that another method was best for hyping the product. In order to have as heart-pouding of a trailer, there would need to be game play as heart pounding. That's hard to convey when it's an RTS that is by its very definition the oppposite of this.

Drink some juice man and calm down
I never said I approved of other games doing these kinds of lies. Halo was subject to the same kind of deception and I think its a reprehensible advertising tactic all around. Promoting a game without showing actual gameplay disgusts me.

Yes it does. If thousands of people return the game because they were lied to in previews, its not just Blizzard's problem. Its more unneeded media nightmare to light the anti-video game fire. We ALL suffer from false advertising.

Gameplay has been all over the net, especially since Beta. Seeing story hints is what is new and exciting.

Its like I'm talking to brick walls. Not everything is about you. These trailers aren't for you. They're meant to be displayed to the ignorant, non-gamer masses to make them gamers. And they're a lie.

they have the website at the end of commercials and trailers for a reason. Very VERY few people just go and buy a game based on just a trailer and no research.

you play single player for the story

Everything disgusts you. You do nothing but assume the worst in every aspect of everything you see or read. What is wrong with you? Even if everything you said is true, being disgusted by marketing is an immature overreaction. They want to make money. You would do it you were them just like any of us would.

Why do you assume that the creators of the Halo trailers did so to deceive the audience into believing it was something else? It's much more logical to assume that they did it because it created more excitement. There's no way someone who's into gaming enough to buy the game would not know what Halo was about. Therefore, clearly, the targets of the commercials were those who were gamers and knew about Halo and, yet, the believed that such a commercial would be best to sell the product. It's simple presentation man. It's marketing. Gameplay is boring. Plain and simple. Like I said, there's many games that I love the gameplay of, however, when I see a trailer I do not want to see gameplay because gameplay needs to be played for it to be exciting. Cinematics, however, are exciting on their own.

I pity all of you for believing in and perpetuating this kind of trickery. Its clear you've all accepted that its OK to be lied to by manufactures. Enjoy your Sham-Wow's.

Your naive supposition that all game commercials show actual gameplay instead of cool cinematics aside, there's one other thing you've forgot: almost all the "cinematics" shown in this trailer are in game. You control Raynor in WoL, walk around like in an RPG, etc. etc, all at the same visual quality we see in that trailer. You picked a nice time to complain about this - when a singleplayer gameplay trailer came out. =/

I pity you for being a depressed angry anti-socialite Everything you say is pessimistic, offensive, and anti-social. I honestly feel sorry for you.

But, again, we aren't being lied to. We're being given an actually exciting trailer that can hype us. Instead of boring gameplay. If they had issued a game play trailer you would complaining that it was boring or spoiled the story.

    Nothing makes you happy.

A 2 minute and 30 second trailer of the forty minutes of cinematics in a 6-8 hour long campaign full of RTS does not an accurate portrayal of gameplay make.
