Why is everyone so excited for this trailer? They're clearly afraid and ashamed of SC2. Instead of promoting the RTS aspect of the actual gameplay, they're focusing on showing pre-rended cutscenes like the game will be a Mass-Effect-esque cinematic experience.

They're lying to you. I find this trailer absolutely insulting.

lol... This was basically a cinematic trailer... It would be horrible if they randomly added gameplay into it. They wanted to get the plot out and a view of a lot of the cinematics (which is the reason for 3 games instead of 1). They also released this video for us, the fans of the game, and not for advertisement purposes. It would be odd and stupid to give gameplay footage to an audience that has been following this game for years, watching beta, playing beta, etc.

Blizzard targeted all of us who have been waiting so long for this game. We are the audience, and we'd find it just as ridiculous as all of those artwork pictures we've already seen if they added any gameplay footage into it.

We have seen demo after demo, match after match, replay after replay. It's time we saw some cinematics.

Lets rewind to the trailer they showed at that basketball game.

Who was at that basketball game? Lots of people who have probably never ever heard of StarCraft.

What did that trailer show to those people who had never heard of StarCraft? Cinematics.

So all those people who never heard of StarCraft got their first taste of the fact-paced action RTS though... cinematics. When they think of SC2 they will think of... cinematics. When they buy SC2 they will be expecting... cinematics. And when they play SC2 they'll get... an RTS?

As much you may want to think you're special, this trailer wasn't for you. Something so processed and generic is for everyone. And everyone includes more people who have no idea what StarCraft is than it does rabid fanboys like us.

Regular people haven't seen the gameplay thoughout the development process. These cinematic lies are their first experience with StarCraft. They are being mislead, and I do not approve of it.

@DSquid: Yes and no. Yes, Blizzard is trying to sell the cinematic side of the game (as I said before with my Final Fantasy VII example) because that is what would appeal to them more. However, they are not even remotely ashamed of the game itself. It's just that gameplay doesn't make a good TV trailer. A trailer is meant to excite and hype the product; not put the audience to sleep. I'm a huge StarCraft fan (obviously) and I watch countless replays and VODs but still a commercial with gameplay would put me to sleep. This trailer, however, was quite exciting.

Think of countless games like Halo, Killzone 2, and whatever else. None of them had gameplay in their trailers. They either had real-life actors, plastic toys, or something else. Does that mean that they're trying to deceive their audience? No. Does that mean they were ashamed of the gameplay? No. Everyone knows what Halo is that was going to buy it. They just felt that another method was best for hyping the product. Quit snippet of cinematic set to musical cues is infinitely better than random and awkward gameplay. In order to have as heart-pouding of a trailer, there would need to be game play as heart pounding. That's hard to convey when it's an RTS that is by its very definition the oppposite of this. If it can't be done with an FPS like Halo or Killzone 2 (which are quite action packed), why would you expect it from an RTS like StarCraft 2?
