I think you're wrong to be so dismissive. This isn't "the best thing" I've ever seen -- it's just a lot better than what I was expecting.

Our disagreement, if any, stems from the fact that I can't for the life of me imagine how you were expecting better.

It just sounds to me like you can't actually pick out any moments in the trailer where the graphics are as bad as you make them seem, like I challenged you to do. So you are running away.

I hadn't noticed you get involved lately, I was mostly referring to Wankey. You're a cool-headed person and I enjoy discussions with you.

I'm with Hammy: I didn't like the mixing of the techniques. This is going to be almost as much an advertisement as the NBA spot, but the switching between non-pre-rens and pre-rens didn't sit well with me. They should have chosen one or the other, but not tried to meld both. It just showed the shortcomings of the other because of how perfectly awesome their pre-rens are.

Also, Hav0x, take a good long look at any shot that involves Raynor's pistol, especially when he's holstering it.

The crashing/near crashing of the battlecruisers is also another spot that was jarring in 1080p.

However, I am obviously in the minority here. A good discussion, I enjoy, but this is turning into too much of an argument so I'm tipping my hat and backing out before I say something I'll regret later.

I saw this trailer, saw it twice, and could not stop smiling.

    ...until I read this thread.

Defies logic. Heh, let me illustrate your amazing logic:

Big billion dollar company decides to host a facebook competition. Releasing random pieces of art and music resources that are already in game and already seen by a vast majority of us.

Upon reaching 100%, they say we're in for a surprise and all our hard work is going to be rewarded.

You immediately go to believe that they are going to do a tangent to the previous media release and do announcements such as release a SNOW TILE (of ALL things they could release) and adding B.net improvements (which REQUIRE DEVELOPMENT TIME)

After watching a great trailer, you're immediately angry at the fact that they spent make hours editing various parts of the game (they had to have taken the entire game down in video, then sat through the final cut pro or whatever they use to edit this trailer) into a great and fun to watch trailer full of scenes that we haven't yet seen and gives us one of the biggest teasers we have ever laid our hands on .

I have a hard time even picking out in game rendered to cgi rendered scenes sometimes, it's just THAT good.

But no, it's not good enough, they should've done something better. Your suggestions are way worse than the trailer (I don't care about a snow tile or extra b.net features, since they are coming anway). The only thing Blizzard could've done as a reward for 100% is releasing the game NOW. But no, that's just too much to ask.

There is no logic in your post. You're just a whiny little guy that gets overhyped by the smallest thing and expects way too much from Blizzard. This game is already shipped, where were you at the beginning of Beta? This was purely a marketing campaign, the entire development team is having a vacation right now. Heck, even Dustin Browder said nothing is coming down the pipeline for balance changes for a while. Samwise and the entire art department must be catching up on so much sleep right now.

The ONLY alternative is the one they have taken. Sure, you can argue that the in-engine cutscenes should be better but I doubt they could without being a beast to process.
As much as I'd love 2 hours of pre-rendered Blizzard quality cut-scenes in the game, it just will never happen. Blizzard has a team dedicated to making the pre-rendered videos and they definitely take quite a while to make. Not only that but this team does the cinematics for all their games, so fans can't be greedy.

I really like the idea of the in-game cinematics, ie on the Hyperion, as they're not just in-game models and they make story scenes much more dedicated without having to hire hundreds of additional staff to work on the pre-rendered stuff.

In terms of mixing pre-rendered and game rendered scenes for a trailer I have no problem with that as both are of high quality and it gets the job done.

I thought the trailer was great and really goes to show that the campaign experience is going to be better than I previously imagined. 5 days, motherfuckers!
I really need to change this...

I believe they have said it takes a year to do a single cinematic from concept to completion.

I would like to see Blizzard's next MMO utilize Starcraft 2's in game cinematic engine. Man, wouldn't that be AMAZING.

Shortcomings? What shortcomings are there? Again, I think you're just setting your standards a tiny bit too high for an RTS game. Did you expect their engine to render in game scenes that looked like Crysis?

Your complaint makes no sense, especially since this is exactly how it's going to work in the campaign. You play a mission, you see in game cinematic, following another mission, you see big plot involved pre rendered cinematic.

If your complaint is that you don't like "mixing" it up, then I wonder if you'll even play the campaign? Or will it turn you off that much?

They more than likely will be sharing technology with that team. The WoW engine is nothing but an improved WC3 engine.
