No we tried several different tactics to move people along quicker with each subsequent midnight release and the only thing that ever worked was opening all the registers. At one point we did a thing where if you had your receipt and ID you could grab your game without going to a register at all if you were fully paid, but nothing helps like having enough staff, which is always tough.

So TLDR the area manager sets up the way it works, there's no company wide mandates on midnight sales, at least there wasn't when I worked there.

you do do a deposit when preordering, and u can use that money to buy your game. i think they would prefer u to have all 60 dollars deposited under your name to go to midnight release so its faster.. dunno. :[

You can't pay-off your preorder before monday evening. That's the info I've got from the gamestops in Oklahoma that I've called, which is ten (just to check). It's probably something similar for most of the US. They said the reason is because Blizzard (or someone) will fine them if they sell it too early, even though we cannot play until midnight in our respective timezones.

Exactly, you can pay then, but if you want to pay off your order early, so as to just walk in and grab it, you have to do it Monday evening (6-8 pm here in OK). If they try to sell you the game (read: you pay off the pre-order) earlier than that, they incur a fine.

I got a call from Gamestop today. At 10 P.M. a launch party begins, and anyone who has preordered can somehow claim a copy before launch, so they have minimum wait time when the clock dings, and the Geek New Year begins. I have no idea how you can claim a copy, but it sounds most excellent.

i would call the actual store you ordered from to confirm
